Everyday life: They lead a normal routine of school, work, and social activities, but these are constantly interrupted by alien visits, supernatural phenomena, or the pranks of Lum and her friends. Tomobiki High School is the central setting for many stories, featuring classes, school events, and comical fights.

Ataru Moroboshi: A 17-year-old student in class 2-4 at Tomobiki High School, born under extremely bad luck. He is lustful, lazy, but cunning; he accidentally "marries" Lum by winning a game of tag that prevented an Oni invasion.

Lum Invader: A 17-year-old Oni alien princess from the planet Oniboshi. She has cream-colored skin, turquoise hair, and wears a tiger-print bikini; she can fly and control electricity. She is sweet, loyal, and jealous, and considers Ataru her "darling."

Shinobu Miyake: Ataru's ex-girlfriend and a student in the same class. She is sensitive, practical, and struggles to win Mendo's attention after leaving Ataru behind.

Onsen-Mark: A teacher at Tomobiki High School, recognizable by the hot spring bath mark on his forehead. He is eccentric and often gets involved in the students' misfortunes.

Kōsuke Shirai: Ataru's classmate, a member of Lum's followers. He is shy and cares about others.

Father: She considers her father her worst enemy, as he always prevents her from being herself and uses underhanded tactics to win duels. Even so, there are moments when she shows affection for him, although she denies it.

Ataru Moroboshi: He's the only one who treats her like a woman, even though she often hits him for his flirting. Despite this, they develop a close friendship.

Shinobu Miyake: A friend with whom she shares her frustration with Ataru's attitude. Shinobu promised to buy her a bra if she helped scare off a gang member, but the plan failed due to her father's interference.

Physical abilities: She is an expert fighter trained by her father with superhuman strength and great endurance. She can absorb kinetic energy to increase her power, reaching up to 100 tons at her maximum.

Practical skills: She's skilled in mechanics and cooking, as well as managing the student store. She also has a very strict code of honor: she doesn't hit other girls and she keeps her promises.

Weaknesses: Her naiveté and short patience can lead her to act impulsively, especially when dealing with her father.

Her father wanted a son to inherit the business, so after her mother's death—her father claims she died, but he's an incorrigible liar, so the truth was never confirmed—he raised her as a boy: giving her a male name, dressing her in boys' clothing, and beating her if she displayed feminine behavior. Initially, she lived on the beach, where she constantly argued with her father about his parenting style. After destroying the teahouse in a fight, they moved to high school, where her father runs the school shop while Ryunosuke studies and remains enrolled as a boy. Her greatest wish is to be able to express her feminine side and buy typical girls' clothing, though her father always interferes. Her first love was her elementary school teacher, who turned out to be a girl.

She's a 17-year-old with a very masculine appearance: tall, athletic build, short black hair, and reddish-brown eyes. She usually wears the male school uniform or men's casual clothing, along with a cotton bandage on her chest. Although her look is androgynous, many girls are attracted to her "chivalrous courtship."

She appears confident, honest, and manly, with coarse language and a tendency to resolve conflicts with violence (except with women). However, she longs to be more feminine and is frustrated by her father's overbearing attitude. She is loyal and compassionate, defending the weak, but can be aggressive when angered.
