Global Context: The Society of Superheroes
The modern world is defined by the existence of "Quirks," genetic mutations that grant superhuman abilities. Approximately 80% of the world's population possesses some type of Quirk, while the remaining 20% are "Quirkless," an often marginalized minority. Society has adapted its laws, infrastructure, and culture to accommodate these abilities. Public use of Quirks is restricted by law; only licensed Professional Heroes are permitted to use their powers freely to fight crime or in emergency situations. The profession of Hero is the most coveted and respected, becoming a multi-billion dollar industry in merchandising, agencies, and government support.
History: The Coming of the Gifts
The phenomenon began in the city of Qing Qing, China, with the birth of a "luminescent baby." Following this, paranormal phenomena began to manifest worldwide without an identified cause. A period of massive social collapse, known as the "Age of Chaos," ensued, during which governments fell and technology stagnated due to civil unrest caused by individuals using their powers unchecked. During this power vacuum, All For One emerged, unifying the masses under his command through fear and the exchange of powers. Current peace was achieved after the institutionalization of Heroes and the emergence of All Might as the Symbol of Peace, who drastically reduced crime rates.
Gift Classification: Sender
This is the most common type of Quirk. It grants the user the ability to generate and control certain things, or alter the properties of existing things around them. Emitters require a conscious act to activate their powers (such as shooting fire, releasing acid, or manipulating gravity). Some emitter bodies undergo minor changes to accommodate the power (such as special sweat glands), but they generally maintain a standard human form. Excessive use of these Quirks often leads to physical fatigue, mental exhaustion, or specific side effects related to the nature of the element produced.
Classification of Gifts: Transformation
Users of this type can temporarily alter their body structure or parts of it. This includes hardening their skin, gigantism, transforming their arms into weapons, or camouflaging themselves with their surroundings. Unlike mutants, the transformation is an activated, not permanent, state; when the user loses consciousness or becomes exhausted, their body reverts to its normal state. These Quirks are often very effective in close combat, and damage received in the transformed form often does not affect the original body if it reverts in time, or vice versa, depending on the user's biological makeup.
Gift Classification: Mutant
These Gifts cause a permanent alteration to the user's physiology from birth. They cannot be "deactivated." Examples include having a tail, a bird's head, multiple arms, or invisible skin. Because their bodies are structurally adapted to their powers, mutant-type users typically have greater base stamina and do not suffer the same type of activation exhaustion as emitters or transformers, though they may face social discrimination due to their non-human appearance. Hero costumes and accessories for mutants must be highly customized to accommodate their unique anatomies.
Billboard Chart Hero Ranking System
The Public Safety Heroes Commission publishes an official list every two years ranking Professional Heroes. The ranking is based not only on brute force, but on three main criteria: number of incidents resolved (mission success rate), contribution to society (humanitarian work and crime prevention), and public approval rating (popularity and sales). The top 10 heroes are considered the elite and wield massive political and social influence. The number one spot is seen as the cornerstone of national security.
Heroes Public Safety Commission
It is the government agency that oversees all heroic activity in Japan. They are responsible for issuing hero licenses (both provisional and permanent), managing hero agencies, and deploying forces during national crises. While publicly maintaining order, the Commission operates behind the scenes to eliminate threats that could destabilize faith in heroes, sometimes employing assassins or spies (such as Lady Nagant or Hawks) for dirty work. Their goal is to maintain the status quo and the public's blind faith in the hero system at any cost.
UA Academy (General Information)
U.A. High School is the number one hero school in Japan and one of the most prestigious in the world. It is located in Musutafu. Its motto is "Plus Ultra" (Further Beyond). The campus is massive, functioning almost like a small city. It boasts state-of-the-art security measures, including the "U.A. Barrier," reinforced steel walls that automatically close upon intruders, and biometric sensors. The school is divided into four departments: Heroes (the most prestigious), Support (team building), Management (hero business), and General Education (regular studies).
UA Academy (Specific Facilities)
UA houses specialized training facilities. The most famous is the USJ (Unforeseen Simulation Joint), a gigantic dome that simulates natural disasters such as floods, fires, landslides, and storms for rescue training. There are also the Gamma training grounds (industrial mazes of pipes and cement), Beta (an urban city simulation), and the "Heights Alliance" dormitories, built to house students on campus and protect them from villains after the Kamino incident, with individual security systems for each building.
Provisional Hero License Exam
For a student to legally use their Quirk in crisis situations and undertake real-world internships, they must pass this national exam, which typically has a pass rate below 50%. The exam consists of two massive phases: a real-life elimination battle (usually involving body targets that must be protected while hitting other targets with balls) and a disaster zone rescue simulation that assesses efficiency, victim prioritization, and the ability to remain calm under extreme pressure.
League of Villains (Organization)
The main antagonist group, founded by All For One and led by Tomura Shigaraki. Their initial goal was to destroy All Might and dismantle hero society to expose its fragility. They evolved from a small group of criminals into a massive paramilitary organization after merging with the Meta Liberation Army, forming the "Paranormal Liberation Front." They seek the total destruction of the current order to create a world where Quirks can be used freely and power dictates the hierarchy.
All For One (The Villain)
Name: Unknown (Surname: Shigaraki). Appearance: A tall man in a formal suit. His face is a mass of scarred tissue with no visible eyes, nose, or ears (due to his fight with All Might). He wears a black life support mask with tubes. Quirk: All For One. He can steal other people's Quirks, use them himself, or transfer them to others. He possesses hundreds of combined Quirks (strength, longevity, air cannon, infrared vision, etc.). Personality: A master manipulator and megalomaniac, he sees people as pawns. He acts like a polite and composed "Demon King." His presence exudes pure terror.
Tomura Shigaraki (Tenko Shimura)
Role: Leader of the League of Villains / Successor to AFO. Appearance: Pale, dry skin, pale blue hair (formerly black), scars around his eyes and mouth. He used to wear embalmed hands attached to his body. Quirk: Decay. Anything he touches with his five fingers disintegrates into dust. After his "awakening," the Decay can spread in a chain reaction to things he isn't directly touching, destroying entire cities in seconds. Personality: Nihilistic, childlike at first, he matured into an embodiment of pure hatred and destruction. He hates everything that breathes.
Dabi (Toya Todoroki)
Affiliation: League of Villains. Appearance: Skin with patches of purple/burned flesh attached to healthy skin with silver surgical staples. White hair (formerly dyed black). Turquoise eyes. Quirk: Blue Flame (Cremation). Generates blue flames that are much hotter than Endeavor's, but his body is not fire-resistant, so he burns himself when using them. Personality: Sadistic, apathetic, and full of resentment. His sole motivation is to destroy Endeavor and ruin his legacy by revealing his abusive past. He is Shoto's long-lost older brother.
Himiko Toga
Affiliation: League of Villains. Appearance: Blonde high school student with messy buns, prominent fangs, and perpetual blush. Wears a school uniform with a beige sweater. Quirk: Transformation. She can transform into anyone whose blood she has ingested. The duration depends on the amount of blood. After her "awakening," she can use the Quirks of the people she transforms into if she loves them deeply. Personality: Yandere, obsessed with blood and "love." She wants to be like the people she loves, which for her means becoming them (and cutting them up). She has a twisted but genuine view of friendship.
Nomus
Biological monsters artificially created by Dr. Garaki for the League of Villains. They are modified humans (often corpses) injected with multiple Quirks. They generally lack intelligence and only follow specific orders. Low/Mid Range Nomu: Cannon fodder, deformed appearance, multiple eyes or limbs. High-End Nomu: Intelligent, capable of speech and thought, they possess "Super Regeneration" gifts and combat capabilities that rival the best professional heroes.
One For All (Mechanics and Vestiges)
A unique, cultivable, and transferable Quirk. It is passed on by ingesting the current user's DNA with the intention of transferring it. The core of its power is the accumulation of energy across generations. Within the Quirk exist "Vestiges," the consciousnesses of previous users. Izuku is the only one capable of fully communicating with them and accessing their individual Quirks, which have been amplified by the core of One For All. Previous users include Yoichi (1st), Kudo (2nd), Bruce (3rd), Hikage (4th), Banjo (5th), En (6th), Nana Shimura (7th), and All Might (8th).
Awakened Gifts (Quirk Awakening)
A rare phenomenon that occurs when a Quirk user is under extreme physical or emotional stress (a life-or-death situation). The Quirk suddenly evolves, removing previous limitations or gaining new applications that were previously impossible. Examples: Toga being able to use the Quirks of her transformations, Shigaraki extending the deterioration without direct contact, or Geten manipulating the temperature of ice, not just the ice itself.
Support Gear
Technology designed to help heroes control or enhance their Gifts and mitigate their weaknesses. Hero Costumes: Made from registered and adapted materials (fire-resistant, elastic, etc.). Specific Items: Aizawa's Glasses (conceal the direction of his gaze), Bakugo's Grenades (store sweat), Deku's Boots (iron soles for impact), Present Mic's Speakers (sound directionality). The company "Detnerat" is a large manufacturer, though secretly linked to villains.
Eri
Age: 6-7 years old. Appearance: Little girl, long, messy white hair, red eyes, a small horn on the right side of her forehead. She wears a simple nightgown or clothes given to her by UA. Quirk: Rewind. She can rewind the state of a living body to a previous point in time. She can heal wounds, reverse genetic evolution (erase Quirks), or rewind a person until they cease to exist (turn them into nothingness). She cannot control her power initially and is extremely dangerous.
Shie Hassaikai (The Eight Precepts of Death)
An old Yakuza organization led by Overhaul (Kai Chisaki). They operate from the shadows, attempting to restore the Yakuza's honor in a world dominated by heroes. They created the drug "Trigger" (which enhances Quirks) and Quirk-destroying bullets (made with the blood and cells of Eri, a girl with the Rewind Quirk). They seek to eliminate Quirks from society in order to regain control of the underworld by selling the cure.
Tartars
The maximum-security prison for criminals with extremely dangerous Quirks or high-profile villains (such as All For One, Stain, and Muscular). Located on an isolated island, it features sensors that monitor prisoners' brainwaves and vital signs 24/7. If a prisoner attempts to activate their Quirk, the automatic weapons and containment systems respond instantly. It is considered inescapable until a coordinated attack by the Nomu and Shigaraki.
Mirio Togata (Lemillion)
Age: 18 (3rd year student, one of "The Big Three"). Appearance: Muscular, blond pompadour hair, simple, cartoonish blue eyes, friendly face. Quirk: Permeability. He can make his body intangible, allowing attacks and physical matter to pass through him. If he activates the Quirk throughout his entire body, he falls through the ground; when deactivated, he is instantly repelled to the surface (glitch teleportation). While intangible, he cannot see, hear, or breathe. Personality: Radiantly optimistic, a joker, he works harder than anyone else to master an extremely difficult and dangerous Quirk.
Tamaki Amajiki (Suneater)
Age: 18 (The Big Three). Appearance: Messy dark hair, pointed ears, downcast eyes, hunched posture. Quirk: Manifest. He can manifest the physical characteristics of anything he eats. If he eats clams, his fingers become hard shells; if he eats octopus, tentacles; if he eats chicken, wings and claws. He can combine multiple characteristics at once (Chimera Kraken). The potency depends on the amount ingested and digestion. Personality: Extremely socially anxious, pessimistic, lacks confidence, but possesses professional-level combat skills. He deeply admires Mirio.
Nejire Hado (Nejire-chan)
Age: 18 (The Big Three). Appearance: Very long, curly, sky-blue hair that reaches her legs, large blue eyes. Quirk: Surge. She converts her own vitality/energy into golden, spiraling shockwaves. She can use them to fly or attack. Because the waves travel in a spiral, they are slow but cover a large area and are destructive. Excessive use physically exhausts her due to the consumption of vitality. Personality: Childlike inquisitive, asks harmlessly invasive questions, constantly floats, airy but very perceptive and powerful.
Hitoshi Shinso
Course: Initially General Education, transferred to Heroes (Class 2-A). Appearance: Gravity-defying purple hair, deep dark circles under his eyes, tired gaze. Quirk: Brainwashing. If someone verbally responds to one of his questions or statements, he can put them under instant mind control. The victim loses consciousness and obeys simple commands. The effect is broken by a strong physical impact. He uses a voice-modulating mask ("Personas Cords") to mimic voices and trick opponents into responding. Personality: Stoic, resentful of how society views his Quirk as "villainous," determined to be a hero. Direct disciple of Aizawa.
Mei Hatsume
Course: Support Department. Appearance: Pink dreadlocks, yellow eyes with crossed telescopic sights, always covered in grease or oil, wears steampunk goggles. Quirk: Zoom. Can clearly see targets up to 5 km away by focusing her eyes like camera lenses. Personality: A shameless inventor, she calls her gadgets "babies." She's not interested in heroism, only in showing off her technology to large corporations. She uses people (like Iida or Deku) as living billboards for her tests. She has no sense of personal space.
Chizome Akaguro (Stain - The Hero Killer)
Role: Villain/Anti-villain. Appearance: No nose (cut off), wears a bandana and dirty bandages, multiple knives and katanas, long, tattered red scarf, very long tongue. Quirk: Blood Clot. Paralyzes his opponent by licking and ingesting their blood. The duration of paralysis depends on the victim's blood type (Type B is the longest, O the shortest). Ideology: Believes that the current hero society is fake and corrupt, filled with people who only seek fame and money. Only All Might is a "true hero." He kills those he considers unworthy ("fake heroes") to purge society.
Danjuro Tobita (Gentle Criminal) & La Brava
Role: Independent Villains / YouTubers. Gentle: An older man with a well-groomed mustache and an elegant coat. Gift: Elasticity. He can make anything he touches elastic, including air, creating invisible trampolines. He seeks fame to leave his mark on history. La Brava (Manami Aiba): A very small woman with large dark circles under her eyes. Gift: Love. She can amplify the power of the person she loves most for a limited time, once a day. Dynamics: They are not evil villains, but rather gentlemanly criminals who commit minor offenses and broadcast them on video. They have a relationship of codependency and genuine love.
Theory of the Singularity of Gifts
A theory proposed by Dr. Garaki 70 years ago, initially ridiculed, posits that as Quirks blend and become more complex and powerful with each generation, eventually the human "hardware" (the body) will be unable to support the "software" (the power), leading humanity to lose control and self-destruct. The Nomus and Shigaraki's physical instability upon receiving the AFO are evidence of this theory, as is the uncontrollable power of modern preschool children.
"Trigger" drug
An illegal substance trafficked on the black market (originally manufactured in Asia and distributed by the Yakuza and villains like Factory). It's a solution that, when injected or inhaled, drastically enhances a person's Quirk, but weakens their reasoning and emotional control. An overdose or stronger variants cause the user's tongue to turn black and can cause permanent bodily mutations or death from exhaustion.
Shiketsu Academy
The rival hero school of UA, located in western Japan. They have a long-standing rivalry. Their uniform includes mandatory military caps that cannot be removed. They value dignity and strict discipline over personal freedom. Inasa Yoarashi (Gale Force): A top student at Shiketsu with the Quirk of wind manipulation. He refused to enter UA despite being recommended, due to his initial dislike for Todoroki and Endeavor.
Kamino Incident
The historical turning point in the modern series. It occurred in the Kamino District of Yokohama. It was a rescue operation to save Bakugo from the League of Villains. It culminated in the public battle between All Might and All For One. All Might won and imprisoned All For One, but exhausted the last embers of One For All, revealing his skeletal form to the world and forcing his retirement. It marked the "End of the Symbol of Peace" and the beginning of an era of uncertainty and rising crime.
Paranormal Liberation War
A massive nationwide conflict that occurred a year after Kamino. It pitted all of Japan's Pro Heroes and U.A. students against the "Paranormal Liberation Front" (a fusion of the League of Villains and the Liberation Army, with over 100,000 soldiers). It resulted in the complete destruction of several cities (Jaku, Deika) by the awakened Shigaraki and Gigantomachia, thousands of civilian and hero casualties, and the total collapse of public faith in hero society.
Lady Nagant (Kaina Tsutsumi)
Status: Villain (Ex-Hero). Appearance: Tall woman with dark blue and pink hair, wearing utilitarian clothing. Her right arm transforms into an organic rifle. Quirk: Rifle. She can create bullets from her own hair (which hardens like epoxy resin) and fire them with pinpoint accuracy. She can also bend the trajectory of the bullets. History: She was a public safety hero used by the Commission to secretly assassinate corrupt heroes and villains. Mentally broken by the hypocrisy of the system, she killed her superior and was imprisoned in Tartaros until AFO freed her to hunt down Deku.
Security Guards (Legal Concept)
Individuals who use their Quirks to fight crime without a Hero License. This is illegal under current law. Unlike villains, they have good intentions, but are pursued by the police and professional heroes for "unauthorized Quirk use." Historically, before the Hero system, everyone was a vigilante. Notable examples (from the spin-off): The Crawler (Koichi Haimawari), Knuckleduster.
UA Sports Festival
Japan's biggest sporting event, surpassing the Olympics in popularity. It's broadcast worldwide. It serves as a platform for U.A. students to showcase their Quirks to professional hero agencies in order to secure internships and job offers. It consists of three stages: a no-holds-barred obstacle course, a cavalry battle or team game, and a final 1-on-1 combat tournament.
Jaku General Hospital
It appeared to be a normal hospital run by Dr. Kyudai Garaki (a respected founder of community medicine). In reality, it concealed a massive underground morgue and a laboratory ("The Chair of Evil") where high-end Nomu were manufactured and where Tomura Shigaraki underwent the horrific surgery to receive the All For One Quirk and enhance his body. It was the epicenter of the first phase of the Paranormal Liberation War.
Deika Citadel
An isolated mountain town that secretly served as the base of operations for the Meta Liberation Army. Ninety percent of the town's population were sleeper members of the army. It was almost completely destroyed during the battle between the League of Villains and the Liberation Army (Event: "My Villain Academia"), where Shigaraki awakened his Massive Decay power, turning the town center into a giant crater.
Plus Ultra
The official motto of UA Academy and a philosophy of life for heroes. Latin for "Beyond." It means surpassing your physical and mental limits in moments of extreme adversity. It's not just about pushing yourself; it's about breaking the barrier of what you believe is possible when the situation demands it (usually to save others). It's the psychological foundation for awakening Quirks and heroic resilience.
Yuga Aoyama (Can't Stop Twinkling)
Age: 16. Appearance: Slender youth with neatly styled, medium-length blond hair and indigo eyes with long, shimmering eyelashes. His hero costume is a gleaming knight's armor with a purple cape and red goggles. Quirk: Navel Laser. He can fire a powerful, scintillating laser beam from his navel. The laser is destructive and can be used for propulsion or as a lightsaber. Weakness: Using the laser for more than one continuous second causes severe stomach upset and diarrhea. Personality: Eccentric and flamboyant. He hides deep insecurity and fear (related to being born without a Quirk and his secret connection to AFO) beneath a facade of French nobility and narcissism.
Mina Ashido (Pinky)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Pink skin, eyes with black sclera and yellow irises, short, messy pink hair, two yellow horns on her forehead. Athletic physique ("dancer's thighs"). Quirk: Acid. Secretes corrosive acid from her skin. Controls its viscosity and solubility (lethal or non-lethal). Can slide on her acid to move quickly. Personality: Cheerful, energetic, very social, and somewhat academically deficient. She is an expert at breakdancing, which she incorporates into her fluid and acrobatic fighting style.

Frog abilities: extendable tongue (20m), powerful jump, camouflage, fast swimming, wall climbing, eversible stomach (cleaning/storage), and secretion of mild toxic mucus. Personality: Stoic, observant, and brutally honest. She is the emotional pillar of the group, maintaining calm in crises. She prefers her friends to call her "Tsu." She enters hibernation in extreme cold.
Tenya Iida (Ingenium)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Tall, robust build, dark blue hair in a formal cut, rectangular glasses. He has car engines in his calves with exhaust pipes. Quirk: Engine. Grants him super speed and devastating kicks (Recipro Burst/Recipro Turbo). He must drink orange juice as fuel and keep his radiators clean. He can rip off his mufflers to train new, stronger ones. Personality: Class representative. Obsessive about rules, robotic hand gestures, serious and gentlemanly. Very loyal and protective.
Ochaco Uraraka (Uravity)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Brown bob haircut, large brown eyes, small eyebrows, pink pads on her fingertips. Curvy and strong body. Quirk: Zero Gravity. Gets dizzy if she uses her Quirk on herself or overuses it.
Mashirao Ojiro (Tailman)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Short blond hair, small eyes, muscular build, a long, thick tail with a furry tip. He wears a white karate gi. Quirk: Tail. His tail is an extremely strong and prehensile third limb. He uses it to attack, defend himself, hang, or propel himself. Personality: The "normal" student. He is humble, hardworking, and has a strong sense of honor and dignity (he withdrew from the sports festival because he didn't win on merit). He is calm and disciplined in martial arts.
Denki Kaminari (Chargebolt)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Blond hair with a black streak, yellow/gold eyes. Relaxed expression. Quirk: Electrification. Emits static electricity or massive discharges (1.3 million volts). Without support equipment, his discharge is indiscriminate (damaging allies). Uses a pointer to direct it. Weakness: If he exceeds his wattage limit, his brain short-circuits, leaving him in a "dumb" and useless state for 1 hour. Personality: Flirtatious, friendly, somewhat academically challenged but resourceful in battle. Follows trends and fashions.
Eijiro Kirishima (Red Riot)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Red hair with dyed tips (naturally black), scar over his right eye, sharp shark-like teeth. Very muscular body. Quirk: Hardening. Hardens his skin like rock/steel. Increases physical defense and attack. "Red Riot Unbreakable" is his ultimate form (monstrous and nearly invulnerable) for 30-40 seconds. Personality: Obsessed with "manliness" and courage. Emotional, honest, and Bakugo's best friend. He worries about not having a "flashy" Quirk, compensating with an indomitable spirit.
Koji Koda (Anima)
Class: 1-A Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Tall, with an irregularly shaped, rock-like head, fair skin, and a broad build. He doesn't look like a conventional human. Quirk: Anivoice. He can communicate with and command animals, insects, and birds. His voice reaches any animal to request help or exploration. Personality: Extremely shy and quiet (almost mute at first). Mezo Shoji (Tentacole)
Class: 1-A. Age: 16. Appearance: Tallest in the class. Gray hair, wears a blue mask covering his mouth (so as not to frighten children). Has six arms connected by membranes of skin; the ends of his tentacles can replicate eyes, mouths, or ears. Quirk: Dupli-Arms. Can replicate parts of his body (eyes, ears, hands) at the tips of his tentacles. Excellent at tracking and possesses multiple physical strength abilities.
