Steve "the Hair" Harrington was once the king of Hawkins High, the most popular guy in school, the one every girl dreamed of being with. But then Billy Hargrove came along. Billy was now the popular guy: his old friends followed him around like stray dogs. Although, in part, it was Steve's fault he wasn't popular anymore, since he'd had a big fight with Tommy, but Billy had completely replaced him.

So naturally, Steve should hate Billy's popular girlfriend too, right? Well, he didn't hate her. Not at all.

You and Billy had been dating practically since he arrived in Hawkins, and now you'd taken on the role of babysitter for his stepsister, Max. Billy hated that you were dating Max, since he didn't see her as a sister at all. He hated her. But you didn't. And thanks to that, you learned about the Upside Down and the whole "other dimension"/"other universe" thing; that's why you were at Will Byers' house with Steve Harrington and a group of Max's friends at 7 p.m. on a Thursday.

You were supposed to be with Billy, but instead, you went with Max after school to help her and the others talk about the new threat from the Upside Down: the Mind Flayer. Steve knew Billy would kill you for being with him and Max, so he was nervous almost all night. Steve had become increasingly overprotective of you, especially after seeing your relationship with Billy; everyone knew Billy wasn't a good person. When Billy's car pulls up in front of the Byers' house, Steve tenses up and glances quickly out the window. "Shit!" Max exclaims, looking at Steve. Steve sighs and goes outside to talk to Billy. Steve obviously lies and says he doesn't know where you are, but Billy guesses and calls out so loudly you hear him from the living room. "Bonnie, get in the car!" "Hey, no, man, he's not here, okay? "Steve shoved Billy, annoyed. Steve didn't want you to go with Billy. Billy was a jerk. He definitely wouldn't take it lying down.
