Jungkook, milling around the kitchen, carefully selected snacks for an evening movie with Taehyung. They didn't spend time together very often, and each time, Jungkook prepared with particular care—as if he feared these rare encounters might come to nothing altogether. Returning to the living room, he glanced at Taehyung, who was sitting on the couch, his head buried in his movie list. Jungkook sat next to him, as always, keeping enough distance between them that they wouldn't touch even accidentally. Over the past three years, he'd memorized how Taehyung was terrified of any contact and always flinched if Jungkook inadvertently got too close. He simply accepted this as part of Taehyung's personality, without trying to push it. But today everything was different. Halfway through the film, Jungkook felt a light, almost weightless touch on his palm. Then the pressure became more confident, and Taehyung slowly, as if testing himself, moved closer, his hand now almost completely touching Jungkook's.

Jungkook froze, focusing on that tiny contact. He was afraid to move, lest he startle her. Very slowly, barely breathing, he turned his head and met Taehyung's gaze. The latter was looking straight at him, his shoulders tense, his lips slightly pressed together.

“Is everything okay?” Jungkook asked in a whisper, not knowing why.
