Squigly has faded bluish-purple hair with bangs that frame both sides of her face and cover one eye. She also has one of her pigtails. Her skin is lavender-blue, and her eyes are red. Leviathan pierces Squigly's right ear and emerges through a hole on the left side of her head. She wears the lower half of a dress that ends in ruffles and a dress-like top with a skull covering her chest. She also wears red leggings with white stripes.

Before becoming a zombie, she had dark brown hair, styled in pigtails. She also had blue eyes and fair skin. She wore a yellow dress that reached her ankles with white cuffs and collar. She also wore a purple flower at the front of her neck. Finally, she wore black Mary Jane shoes.

Squigly is elegant, calm, and polite, yet tough and determined to complete her mission. Her past experience with a Skullgirl gives her a unique perspective and a greater understanding of the situation than most. She is particularly close to her parasite Leviathan, who has been by her side especially since the day she died and was revived by her mother. If it weren't for him, Squigly wouldn't be able to think for herself as one of Skullgirl's undead minions.

At one point, she was a fan of Eliza's performances before discovering her true nature in the latter's story.

Squigly is the last surviving member of the Contiellos, a famous line of opera singers and longtime clients of the Medici family.

Fourteen years ago, tragedy befell Squigly's family when the Medici Mafia nearly obtained the Skull Heart. Lorenzo's chief assassin, Black Dahlia, was ordered to murder Squigly and her parents by the Mafia, the very people who seemed to be some of her family's closest allies. It was during this incident that her mother had made the wish to bring all the Contiellos back to life, becoming Skullgirl. Squigly would have been one of her henchmen if her father hadn't had Leviathan bond with Squigly as its new host. Upon going to the Medici Tower, she met Annie, Big Band, Panzerfaust, and Deep Violet. She reluctantly agreed to help fight her parents. Upon succeeding, she and Leviathan fell "dead" once more due to Skullgirl being gone. Big Band and Panzerfaust agreed to keep the story of Squigly's actions a secret.

Lorenzo organized and attended Contiello's funeral, but it was during this time that he sewed Squigly's mouth shut, in an attempt to conceal his role in his family's downfall.

Squigly did not resurrect during Queen Nancy's transformation into the Skullgirl, because she was in another land at the time and, as such, her powers did not extend to the deceased of the Canopy Kingdom.

Fast forward to the present: The appearance of Bloody Marie has awakened Squigly from her long slumber. As part of Skullgirl's undead legion, Squigly should have become nothing more than a mindless servant to the Pale Maiden. However, thanks to the powers of her parasite, Leviathan, she is saved from this fate.

Having passed through the Contiello family for generations, Leviathan is refined and adores Squigly just as his father and previous host did. This long family history has made Squigly's bond with Leviathan deeper and more fundamental than that of most parasites, allowing them to work in harmony both in and out of battle like synchronized dance partners. Their unique circumstances also seem to have granted them abilities that transcend this world.

Origin Squigly is essentially a zombie, often referred to as a mere corpse, brought to life by the Skullgirl's power. However, unlike most undead, being Leviathan's host has allowed her to retain her own thoughts and personality. Some of her movements in the game even reference the jiangshi, the Chinese "jumping" zombie/vampire.

In the story prior to the game, the Medici Mafia did not exist; however, the pre-game story mentioned an unnamed mafia in the old history of Squigly.

Her full name is Sienna Contiello. Sienna is an Italian name derived from the city of Siena and also refers to an earth pigment, one of the first used by humans in cave paintings. Contiello is possibly a variant of the surname Conti, derived from the Italian word "conte," meaning "count."

She is best known by her nickname Squigly, which is derived from the word "squiggle" and refers to the appearance of Leviathan protruding from her head and resembling that of a worm.

Leviathan and her mother are shown calling Squigly by her nickname, though the former also occasionally addresses her as "milady." Throughout the game, most characters assume she is one of the Skullgirl's undead minions and refer to her as such or disparagingly as a "corpse." Big Band is one of the few who addresses her by her name, "Sienna," as he knew her when Squigly's mother was the Skullgirl.

Early concept art shows that her full name was formerly Sienna Quinton Cishan Contiello; Quinton means "fifth-born" or "queen's settlement," while Cishan likely derives from the Cishan culture, a Neolithic culture based along the Yellow River in northern China. This was intended to reflect a long lineage with ties to the Dragon Empire and Squigly's use of martial arts, but both the middle names and background have since been dropped.

After waking up in New Meridian, Squigly sees Marie attacking an airship containing Lorenzo Medici fleeing with part of a building. Her reflections on Marie's apparent desire to protect innocent bystanders while focusing her anger on the Medici Mafia are interrupted by the arrival of Parasoul and the Black Herons, who identify her as one of the Skullgirl's henchmen. After fighting Parasoul, Squigly flees the scene, but not before using an apparition-like copy of herself to suggest that the princess of the Canopy Kingdom should focus her attention on Marie and her active henchmen.

After escaping, Squigly noticed that his powers seemed to have grown stronger since he last used them, which Leviathan admitted was a sign of his imperfect ability to block the Skull Heart's influence. Squigly assured his parasite that he was doing an admirable job simply by allowing him to live on after death, but then discovered, to his horror, that someone had sewn his mouth shut during his "sleep." Realizing that the Medici were responsible, Squigly and Leviathan set out to find Lorenzo and exact revenge.

After defeating the Skullgirl, Double ambushes Squigly from behind. Fortunately, Filia and Samson come to her rescue, saving her life. After Squigly and Filia decide to work together and team up against Double, Double warns Squigly that Filia is a Medici. Despite Squigly's aversion to the Medici Mafia, she decides that Filia's actions will speak for themselves.

After the fight with Double, it is revealed that Double was the one who gave Selene, Squigly's mother, the Skull Heart, sparking the sudden and deep hatred between the Contiello and Medici families. Although Lorenzo never claimed the Skull Heart, he ensured that all the Contiello were silenced. Following this revelation, Squigly destroys Double and the Skull Heart. After completing her mission, Squigly returned to rest with Leviathan; the two had become inseparable, only to awaken with the return of the next Skullgirl.

After the credits, a short scene appears showing Filia and Samson placing flowers on Squigly and Leviathan's grave, marked with 'May they rest in peace until we meet again'.

She and/or Leviathan use long-range attacks to avoid close-quarters combat. However, their aerial attacks are quite limited and short-range and must be timed correctly. Most of their ground attacks while crouching are very slow and easy to see and detect at any distance on the screen, but each hit deals massive damage. While Filia and Samson have limited cooperation in attacks, Squigly and Leviathan synchronize their attacks to move fluidly.

Squigly uses her voice (with Leviathan's help) in battle not only to draw the screen's focus and pull opponents towards her for her advantage, but also to produce a large projectile resembling a musical note to inflict damage. She can also charge her moves with stances to make them more damaging or last longer. Stances can be canceled into different attacks to catch opponents off guard.

Like Filia, Squigly fights very little; she simply acts as a vector for Leviathan to attack.
