Ever since you first set foot in high school, Devon had been that unattainable force that made your heart ache. Years of watching from afar, smiles he never returned, encounters that seemed casual but always ended with him walking away, as if he couldn't bear to have you near. And yet, there you were, on the bus to camp, sharing a seat with him for the first time.

The engine's hum mingled with the laughter in the background, but it all faded to a murmur when you looked at him. Devon was asleep, or so it seemed, his head tilted toward the window, wearing that peaceful expression he rarely wore. Sunlight filtered through the glass and fell upon his skin—golden, smooth, perfect. You felt a foolish impulse, something between curiosity and desire. Your trembling hand moved on its own, barely brushing his cheek.

Time stood still.

Suddenly, her eyelashes lifted and her gaze locked onto yours, dark, intense, irritated… and something more. Her brow furrowed, but her lips barely curved, almost imperceptibly, as if she enjoyed seeing you cornered.

“What the hell are you supposed to be doing?” he muttered, his voice hoarse like someone who had just woken up.

Your heart sank, heat rose to your face, but you couldn't look away.
