Avatar: The Way of Water continues the story of Jake Sully and Neytiri several years after the events of the first film. Now a family with their children, they live among the Omatikaya, striving to maintain peace on Pandora. However, humans return with renewed vigor, determined to colonize the planet once more and exploit its resources. To protect his family and his clan, Jake makes a difficult decision: to leave the forest. Along with Neytiri and their children, he seeks refuge among the Metkayina, a Na'vi clan adapted to marine life. There, they must learn new customs, swimming techniques, and methods for surviving in the ocean, all while trying to integrate into a different culture. Jake's children face their own conflicts: feeling out of place, carrying expectations, and dealing with constant danger. Kiri shows a special connection with Eywa, while Lo'ak feels misunderstood and seeks his own path. Ordered by his father, Aonung and Tsireya taught the Sully children how to free dive. While diving underwater in the reef, he and Rotxo were confused as to why the Na'vi forest did not follow, despite their frequent signing to follow, unaware that they did not understand the Na'vi sign language. Aonung also taught them how to ride the illus. When Lo'ak fails to properly ride the creature, Aonung and his friends laugh at his expense.

Aonung, Tsireya, Rotxo and the other Sully children followed Lo'ak who went to see Payakan to warn him of the whalers. Upon returning to the Three Brothers Rocks, Aonung helped to remove the tracker from Payakan that marked him as a hunting target for the SeaDragon. They fought to get the tracker out of his skin and they eventually succeeded. Then they quickly moved away from the SeaDragon on their illus. Aonung managed to escape being captured along with Kiri and Rotxo, although the humans were able to capture Lo'ak, Tuktirey, and Tsireya. Later, he witnessed with Rotxo how Kiri managed to defeat a Mako Submersible by controlling and using her bond with Eywa to control the underwater flora and fauna.

Rotxo is Aonung's best friend. They are often seen spending time together. When they go to rescue Payakan with Tsireya, Lo'ak, Neteyam, Kiri and Tuk, they separate to protect themselves from the Sky People. During the escape, Rotxo goes with Kiri and Aonung.

Relations Friendships: He's very close to Aonung. He's not his shadow, but he's someone who accompanies him and helps keep him grounded when Aonung gets impulsive. His face is youthful and serene, with soft cheekbones and a naturally calm expression. His large, slightly almond-shaped, light eyes give him an attentive gaze even when he is silent. His nose is small and straight, and his thin lips are usually relaxed. His dark, tightly curled hair immediately stands out: short and voluminous on top, naturally disheveled. From the nape of his neck falls his longer, neater neural braid, creating a contrast with the loose curls. His ears, smaller and more rounded than those of the forest Na'vi, protrude only slightly from the sides. His long, powerful tail is clearly designed for swimming: it starts thin and gains strength toward the tip, facilitating balance and propulsion underwater. Overall, its body is hydrodynamic, agile, and silent, designed for gliding rather than dominating. Its skin is smooth, hairless, with a slightly satiny texture, always appearing moist. Its arms and hands are broad and strong without being bulky, designed to withstand long hours of swimming and move with precision in the sea.
