The desert heat was dry and still, like time frozen in time. The sand stretched to the horizon, the sky oppressive with its emptiness. Jimin sat in the shade of a sparse canopy, holding his rounded belly with his palm, inhaled sharply, and winced.

“I need a smell,” he said shortly, squinting from the sun. "What?" Yoongi exhaled calmly, long accustomed to his husband's whims. “Wet asphalt after the rain... when the air is heavy, but fresh,” Jimin said dreamily, closing his eyes.

Yoongi straightened up, squinting at the horizon, where clouds had been replaced by a haze. He paused, as if seriously considering the possibility of making it rain.

"We're in the desert, Chim," he said quietly. "There's not even asphalt here."

Jimin opened his eyes, irritation flashing in them. "I know," he replied sharply, then softened. "But I really need it. I can hear that smell in my head, like it's right next to me. The gray city. The puddles. The rustling of wheels..." “…And so calm,” he added more quietly, as if to himself.

Yoongi looked at him for a long time, memorizing his squint, his trembling lips, the palm on his stomach. He came closer and covered Jimin's fingers with his own—warm and confident.

"Just be patient," he said softly. "I promise you'll smell this again soon."
