Her mother, a woman named Anita Klein, was a singer who was taken in by a theater troupe when she was orphaned. She traveled throughout the continent and loved her profession and lifestyle. He encouraged her to join him at the palace, and she performed one last song with her troupe: a hope for a future where she would marry the king and find true love. However, she was not allowed to leave the palace freely and was mistreated by the nobles for being a commoner. She longed to visit Tanzanite, a country that welcomed singers like herself. Things only worsened when she gave birth to twins, considered a bad omen without Rhodolite, as one is believed to bring good luck while the other brings bad. The nobles' behavior became even more cruel, treating her as a burden and a nuisance. She wrote disjointed and desperate letters to the troupe leader, lamenting her life and how she treated her children. But not even the troupe leader, who loved her like a father, could defend the way she treated the twins. She wrote about how she truly loved them and knew it was wrong to treat them that way, but that her intention was to make them compete to survive in the palace, hoping that one day they would be accepted as true princes.
In fact, the way she treated the twins was awful. She made them compete in everything and was extremely strict with them, demanding that they perfect etiquette, horsemanship, fencing, music, dance, and arts from a young age. Whoever excelled was the good twin, and whoever failed was the bad twin. The good one received a reward, while the "bad" one suffered cruel punishment. But, because they were twins, no one offered to help them. On the contrary, as someone once told him, he was lucky to be alive, because many would only keep one of the twins and pretend the other was never born.

Fortunately, this abuse only strengthened the bond between him and Nokto. He felt he could move on because of him, and the two shared everything—even waking up and going to sleep together. They both clung to the belief that their mother would one day love them and desperately tried to understand why no one loved them. Licht eventually projected this belief onto himself, believing that Nokto and his mother suffered because of his birth and that his duty in life was to make them happy. He became obsessed with the idea that he was born wrong, but strove to become the twin who would bring good luck. And despite the horrible life he lived, he remained a bright, happy, and outgoing boy, "so full of light that he was more dazzling to behold than any of the other princes." Quick to laugh and quick to cry, he quickly won the affection of even Yves.

She loves her younger twin brother, Nokto + believed she only brought sadness to Nokto and failed to provide him with happiness during childhood + felt a lot of guilt towards him + knows how serious Nokto is behind his fickle facade and trusts him more than anyone else in the palace

The two are identical twins, the only differences being the length of their hair, Licht's freckles, and Nokto's nail polish. They share the same indecipherable crimson eyes, delicate features, and similar physical build. But despite these similarities, they demonstrate a very distant relationship. Licht calls him a "worthless womanizer" and "the worst," and the two generally don't even look at each other. There is a clear animosity between them, and they haven't spoken in years. Licht demonstrates more common sense than him, and gives Nokto a death stare when he mentions his "nighttime activities."

The two were inseparable in childhood, sharing everything and even waking up and going to sleep together. They were the reason the other managed to survive in such a hellish environment. However, the love between them hasn't disappeared, but is hidden beneath the trauma they suffered. They both care deeply for each other and still consider themselves two halves of the same being, a half they couldn't live without. Nokto blames himself for leaving Licht alone and for stopping visiting the palace at a young age, causing Licht suffering with each passing day away from him. Licht admits he still misses Nokto's warmth, from when they were always so close in childhood, and explains that, although he feels immense guilt, he has never regretted saving Nokto's life. They understand each other easily and can communicate without words.

Yves Kloss
Fifth oldest half-brother

Being one of Yves' closest brothers, he cares deeply about Licht's mental health and is extremely protective of him. Although he apologizes to others in a somewhat clumsy way, Yves always promptly apologizes to him, spoiling him and being as affectionate as possible. He melts when talking about how "sweet and lovely" Licht is and doesn't want others to consider him cold and distant. He often calls Licht "that boy" and considers him kinder than anyone else in the world. And despite not being as close to her in Licht's route, he still personally thanks her for pulling Licht out of the darkness, even trying to intimidate her so that she never makes his little brother cry again.

Licht, in turn, tries to distance himself from Yves and his constant affection. Despite only liking Yves's sweets, he refuses his invitations to tea parties and insists on being left alone, even going so far as to try to pass Yves on to other people. Even so, he secretly cares for Yves, becoming furious when others insult him and his heritage, and willing to go to war just to protect him. He is even willing to fight his twin brother, Nokto, just for the horrible things the latter said about his older brother. Licht does not hesitate to torture those who have hurt Yves, despite being a kind person at heart, and will put himself in danger to protect him.

Anita Klein
Mother (deceased)

Despite claiming to love them deeply, she mistreated the twins horribly and forced them to compete against each other. She cruelly punished the one who lost, and Licht spent most of his childhood trying to make her happy and win her affection. She is the root of many of his problems. He doesn't seem to hold a grudge against her and still mourns her death.

Both he and Nokto are exact copies of her.

Jin Grandet

Like his brothers, Jin cares about him. He tries to get him to spend time doing things other than training and encourages him to be happy. Licht calls him "noisy and rude," while Jin calls him a good boy.

Chevalier calls him "the mimic," and they say Licht has more common sense than he does.

The two belong to the same faction, and Licht seems to respect him quite a bit, becoming sad when he thinks Leon doesn't trust him and enjoying dueling with him. When Licht disappears during his route, Leon becomes tense and apprehensive, and admits that he can never fully trust Licht, as he fears he might sacrifice himself.

At the start of their journey, he asks her to stay "far away" from him, showing irritation at her questions and trying to avoid her. This is partly due to her overly friendly behavior, but also because he doesn't want to cause her sadness with his presence.

However, after achieving peace, his attitude towards her changed drastically. He becomes incredibly sweet and kind, readily demonstrating how much he loves her and stating that his dream is to be loved by her. He loves physical contact, always holding the protagonist's hand and touching her hair or cheeks, and even sitting as close to her as possible. This is probably because she restored all the emotions that had been repressed since childhood, allowing him to return to his former joy. The second reason is that he was used to sharing Nokto's affection as a child and misses it now.

He no longer wishes to die after becoming her lover, saying that his life now belongs to her and that he could not bear to leave her alone.
