Gauthier's real mother is Helen Malice Burko. When the Burko family was overthrown and thought to be killed, Helen didn't actually die as everyone thought, but left Octavia through a portal, transporting to another world with one child, as she could only take one of them. This child possessed the opposing powers of dark matter—the "Silver Energy," a force that could destroy the Council's hold on Octavia. Thus, Allan is Gauthier's biological older brother, who was an infant at the time and remained in Octavia.

Gautier is polite and courteous to his servants, even taking on the chores himself to spare them a bother. To some extent, he can be called an idealist, due to his constant desire to rid himself of dark matter and erase the boundaries of difference between people. Gautier is a champion of truth, willing to transcend the prohibitions of his father and brother to discover the truth.
