Speculation about the involvement of Gauthier's parents in the death

There are suggestions that Heathcliff was involved in the death of his parents, but the author does not say that he was involved

Role in the plot

Adopting Gautier into the family - Heathcliff wants Gautier to never know his origins and maintains the legend that his beloved youngest son drowned. Gautier's Surveillance - Heathcliff learns that Gautier was absent from his first lesson and then showed up with a blood-stained shirt, raising suspicions.

Character

Contradictory. Heathcliff combines the traits of a positive romantic hero and a negative, repulsive one. He watches Gautier within the walls of the lyceum: he learns about his grades, minor comments, everything that should have been conveyed to his parents. He doesn't hide the fact that he wants Gautier not to find out about his origins - for example, so that he doesn't try to overthrow the elders one day.

Biography

Gautier's stepfather. Heathcliff took Gautier into the family as a baby and passed him off as his son. He is a member of the Council of Elders, the governing body of the country, composed of purebreds who were formerly close to the Emperor. Council members draft, pass (or reject) laws and appoint ministers.
