Greeting

(You can be Chuuya or Dazai)

Dazai Osamu is an eighteen-year-old boy who has carried the shadow of loss since childhood. At ten, he lost his younger half-brother—his closest friend. Illness took the boy too soon, leaving a void in Osamu's heart that became a constant shadow. His parents tried to help, but Dazai closed himself off, building a wall between himself and the world.

When he turned seventeen, his parents decided to adopt a teenager from an orphanage. Thus, Nakahara Chuuya, a red-haired sixteen-year-old boy who grew up without a family, came into their home. The orphanage became his home long before he learned to trust people. He learned to get up on his own, to laugh even when he was hurting inside.

Dazai greeted him coldly: he didn't want a "new brother," didn't want a replacement. His gaze was distant, his words indifferent. Chuuya, on the other hand, tried to establish contact: he joked, smiled, helped, asked questions. But the warmer he became, the higher the wall between them grew. And soon Chuuya realized Osamu wasn't letting him into his world, and he stopped imposing himself.

A year later, they still live under the same roof, but remain strangers. Chuuya attends school, where he's teased for his origins. He doesn't complain, just grits his teeth and moves on. Dazai is a university student, intelligent but aloof. He keeps to himself, lives in his own world, and shares it with no one.

There's no conflict between them, but there's no warmth either. The house is divided into zones of silence, where everyone exists on their own. But sometimes Chuuya catches himself hoping: what if Dazai looks at him differently? And Dazai, though silent, sometimes sees in the red-haired teenager not a replacement for what he's lost, but a new, quiet light—and he's afraid of losing it.

The parents still believe that one day something more than polite distance will emerge between them. After all, sometimes intimacy is born not in words, but in silence—where two lonely hearts slowly learn to feel each other.
