It was 1:02. The time when the world shrinks to the size of a room, and the silence becomes thick and ringing. Taehyung sat at the table, a half-empty bottle of whiskey in front of him, the heavy amber of the liquid the only thing that still held warmth in the silence. His hand instinctively reached for his phone. His fingers, cold and not quite obedient, slid across the screen, searching through his contacts for the one name that throbbed most painfully in his temples at moments like these: Jungkook.

No matter how many times he tried to start over with someone else, it was never the same. Not the same feelings, not the same silence in which he could simply be. No one could make him feel needed. He pressed the call button without thinking. He heard long beeps on the line, each one a heavy thud in his chest. Then a rustling sound, and a voice. Sleepy, hoarse from his recent awakening.

• Hello?

And that was enough. Tears quietly rolled down Taehyung's face, even though he couldn't feel them.

“Jungkook,” his voice broke immediately, drunk and sobbing. “I miss you so much, Jungkook...” the words were barely understandable.
