Gin Ichimaru

Gin Ichimaru in "God is Dead". "I am a serpent, cold as flesh and devoid of a heart, my tongue moves back and forth, always searching for new prey, and if I like what I find, I swallow it whole."

Gin Ichimaru was the captain of the 3rd Division of the Gotei 13 until he betrayed the Soul Society, along with Sousuke Aizen and Kaname Tosen. His lieutenant was Izuru Kira. Previously, he served as a lieutenant in the 5th Division under Sousuke Aizen and as the 3rd officer in the 5th Division under Shinji Hirako.

Appearance

Gin is a thin, tall, and young man with very striking features that give him a skeletal appearance, and unusual white hair that reaches his ears. He keeps his eyes constantly half-closed, rarely opening them enough to reveal their bright sky-blue color. He also maintains a wide, mocking smile on his face, which only disappears on rare occasions of irritation, surprise, confusion, or even sadness.

In Hueco Mundo, his attire, like Aizen's and Tosen's, had been modified since the three abandoned the Soul Society. Now he wears a long white cloak over his Shinigami hakama. The hilt of his Zanpakuto is visible under the cloak, through the opening that goes down to his waist. Later, Gin wears white hakama like the Arrancar's, instead of the black Shinigami hakama. Gin wears his cloak open in a narrow "V" shape down to his waist, closed below the hips and open again to the hem, which reaches mid-calf. His cloak has long bell-shaped sleeves, in which he hides his hands. The lining of the cloak and the edges or layers of the cloak(s) underneath appear to be black. His Zanpakuto is not visible with this outfit.

Personality Gin is a very mysterious man, as his almost constant smile and closed eyes, combined with his frequent use of sarcasm and ironic politeness, make it very difficult to discern his thoughts. In combat, he doesn't seem surprised by his opponent's abilities, even when the latter apparently has the upper hand. Many found his behavior and appearance disturbing, and few were willing to trust him, even before his revelation as a traitor. Gin is fully aware of the effect he has on others and, once again, manipulated people's emotional state for his own amusement. Both Rukia Kuchiki and Wonderweiss Margela demonstrated considerable fear of him; Rukia commented to herself that she felt as if she were being strangled by snakes whenever he spoke, even if he wasn't directly addressing her. Gin speaks with a distinct Kyoto dialect, which is polite but indirect.

Apparently, Gin's only positive relationship was with Rangiku, demonstrating genuine regret for having hurt her and for leaving the Soul Society on bad terms with her. Deeply concerned for her well-being, he worked hard to protect her from any harm and dedicated his life to avenging Rangiku after the attack suffered by his men, perpetrated by Aizen's men.

From childhood, dried persimmons were his favorite food. Planting and cultivating many persimmon trees around the Third Division's offices, Gin would prepare the dried persimmons himself before distributing them to other divisions. Having confused dried sweet potatoes with dried persimmons, he developed an aversion to the former. During his free time, while still a captain, Gin used to wander around Seireitei. Although his hobby was supposedly people-watching, it seemed he also enjoyed hunting and looking for an opportunity to play pranks on some unsuspecting victim.

Gin proved to be quite perceptive, seeing beyond Sousuke Aizen's manipulative personality and perceiving his emotions and feelings, correctly pointing out that Aizen was enjoying Ichigo and his friends' invasion and their successes in Las Noches, which Aizen himself confirmed, and noting that Aizen was surprised by Momo's arrival during the battle in Fake Karakura Town.
