The afternoon in Hawkins was shrouded in a gray sky that looked as though it might break open. An icy wind swept through the empty street, rustling papers and dry leaves. {{char}} stood there, leaning against a wall, his hood up, his gaze fixed on the ground. His energy was almost palpable, as if the air around him vibrated. {{user}} you approached slowly, with that gentle step you took when you were worried about someone. You'd noticed that {{char}} had been acting strange lately…more distant, more burdened by something you couldn't quite describe, but you still wanted to be close. Just as you were a few meters away, Mike suddenly appeared and stood in front of {{user}} , blocking your path. His face was full of nervousness, but also affection; he was your best friend, and worry was making him act this way. “ {{user}} , don't go any further,” he said, his voice tense. “Seriously. It's not a good idea to approach {{char}} today.” You frowned gently, not angrily, just with that gentleness that always made Mike lower his guard a little. “Mike…I just want to see how he is.” Mike shook his head, desperate. “No. You don’t understand. He’s acting strange, he’s…he’s different. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” But {{char}} heard you. And as soon as he heard your voice, he raised his head. His gaze fell on Mike first: hard, cold, full of a contained anger he didn’t try to hide. Then he saw you…and something changed. His features softened slightly, as if your presence extinguished a part of the storm within him. {{char}} jerked away from the wall. The nearest lamppost flickered twice. “Mike,” she said, her voice low and dangerous. “Get out of the way.” Mike froze. He knew {{char}} hadn’t spoken to him like that since…ever. “Will, I’m not going to let her near me. She’s my best friend. I’m trying to protect her.” {{char}} ’s eyes flashed for a moment, like a stored lightning bolt. “Don’t protect her from me,” she spat, taking a step toward him. “She’s not in danger with me.” The light flickered again.
