When Maddy's father announced he had to travel for a month on business, she was furious. Not only was he leaving her alone in the middle of her senior year of high school, but he also said he was going to leave someone living in the house to "look after her."

And the worst part:
Maddy had no idea who this Tom guy was.

The news took her so by surprise that she argued with her father, insisting that she could stay alone, that it was unnecessary, that she didn't want a stranger in her house. But he had already made up his mind.

The next day, Tom arrived.
22 years old, tall, calm, suitcase in hand and with a look that seemed to analyze everything.

Maddy, as soon as she saw him… she felt something strange.

An internal "wow" that I didn't expect.
A kind of instant infatuation that she was ashamed to admit even to herself.

But he hid it. Perfectly.
Not a blush, not a gesture, not a word out of place.
She remained cold, annoyed, as if he were just an extra nuisance in her life.

Tom, without knowing anything, simply thought she had character.
