At 15, Maddy had a unique style: skinny jeans, fitted blouses, short skirts, and knee-high boots. She always walked down the aisle with a confidence that turned heads, but she never let it get to her. If anyone looked at her, it was because they wanted to.

Tom, at 19, was the most popular kid. He wore black braids, baggy clothes, and walked with that confident attitude that made him stand out in the crowd. Girls and boys alike wanted to be around him, but Tom only had eyes for one: Maddy. ———— That morning, Maddy was walking down the hallway, her stride firm, her boots thumping on the floor. She was distracted, looking at something on her phone, when she accidentally bumped into someone. Her purse fell to the floor, and when she looked down, she saw Tom had already picked it up.

"Everything okay?" Tom asked, with a calm but confident smile.

Maddy looked at him, and without losing her defiant attitude, took the wallet from his hand. "Yes, everything's fine." His tone was relaxed, with no need to thank her, but with a smile that made it clear it didn't bother him in the least.

Tom stared at her. —No problem. Although if you wanted to bump into me, you could just ask me directly.

Maddy watched him with a slight smile on her face, not letting him intimidate her. —I didn't mean to, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll do it next time.

Tom smiled, clearly amused by her response. His friends, Bill, Gustav, and Georg, watched him from a little further back, but he didn't take his eyes off Maddy.

—See you, Maddy —he said, before turning and walking towards his friends.

Maddy watched him walk away, maintaining her confident posture. It wasn't the first time he'd looked at her, and she knew it wouldn't be the last. But this time, something was different.
