Limbus Company

Limbus Company is somewhat of an enigmatic company, with goals still unknown. However, keeping the Golden Boughs out of enemy hands is considered to be of the utmost importance for Limbus Company, and at one point, Faust equates the end of the LCB to the end of the world itself.[2] The company is said to have zero budgetary concerns,[3] and have backing from shareholders from a wide array of fields,[4] allowing it to operate under expensive conditions including offering company cards without spending limits to teams with notable performance.[5] The company's various departments are said to lack a common goal,[6] yet they tend to behave in means benefiting the LCB's amateurish adventures, such as planning out their missions or cleaning up their messes after the fact. As a result, the Sinners are generally disliked by competent members of other departments.

While the LCB's specific objective is to capture the Golden Boughs, the greater company finds its cause in the Distortion phenomenon, and considers itself an enterprise specializing in the research and maintenance of Distortions.[1] However, Abnormalities, E.G.O, Peccatula, and Monoliths are additional points of interest for Limbus Company. Limbus Company is also noted to be talented in the realm of information-gathering.[7][8]

Furthermore, Limbus Company operates as a business on the side, and possesses a purchase catalogue which seems to be offered to potential buyers.[9] Through this, the director of T Corp. could buy all of the Monoliths Limbus Company had in stock at the end of Intervallo IV: Timekilling Time, regardless of Faust or Vergilius' personal feelings on the matter. It was also around this time that Limbus Company began making a small name for itself, to the point of P Corp.'s Cesara having heard rumors of the group before meeting them.

E.G.O Corrosion

E.G.O borrowed from an Abnormality possesses one major drawback in the possibility of losing one's self to the equipment. This phenomena is known as E.G.O Corrosion (Korean: E.G.O 침식, E.G.O chimsik), where the user's appearance and behavior transform to reflect the personality and destructive nature of the Abnormality the E.G.O originated from.

While the synchronization between the E.G.O and its user represents the key advantage of E.G.O over other City gear, it also allows for the user to have their ego overridden by it. If insufficient in mental strength, they may "fuse" with the equipment when lacking in the personal virtues of Prudence, Fortitude, Temperance, or Justice (as measured in Lobotomy Corporation) required to stave off the metamorphosis.

During the process of using E.G.O, the individual will hear the voice of the Abnormality it had come from.[5][16] To "corrode" is to allow the voice and its mindset to take over, replacing the user's ego with its own. Alongside the loss of self, corroding eventually incites a physical transformation. This turns its victims into beasts not dissimilar to Distortions.

The speed at which an individual corrodes is tied to their mental state, or ability to fight off the Abnormality's attempt to override the E.G.O user. For instance, reaching -45 SP in battle will instantly corrode a Sinner wielding Abnormality E.G.O. However, better circumstances may require the E.G.O to slowly wear down the user in order to corrode them, such as is described in Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet Sinclair's Identity Story. E.G.O Corrosion may also consist of subtle, relatively harmless changes to the user's personality over time.[12] These cases may be easily combated by removing the E.G.O gear, or for LCE E.G.O, lowering one's level of attunement.

E.G.O Corrosion is seen in-game at several points, such as when the Sinners corrode from repeated usage of Abnormality E.G.O or upon reaching low levels of Sanity.

E.G.O

E.G.O (Extermination of Geometrical Organ)[1] is a type of personalized equipment manifested from an individual's mind. They usually take the form of massively powerful weapons and/or armor.

There are two main types of E.G.O: E.G.O extracted and borrowed from an Abnormality, and E.G.O manifested by oneself. Limbus Company Sinners are known to make use of the former.

Identities

Identities, utilized through access to other Mirror Worlds via technological inventions, are a means of temporarily overlaying an individual with the identity of someone from an alternate world. When someone has an Identity applied to them, everything about them is reflected by the person they are taking unto themselves, including appearance, memories, and personality. Though they are only given the ability to exist in another world thanks to someone else, the individual being taken from their original world seems to have full control of themselves when summoned as a Mirror Identity.

While further details are known about Limbus Company's use of Mirror-sourced Identities, it is not clear if the technology functions the same way in every case. After all, the Identity system is not exclusive to them, but can be utilized by anyone with access to the right technology and know-how.

Backstory

Meursault was previously employed by N Corp. for an unknown length of time. While working for the Wing, he would think about his own personal opinions on humanity and if it aligned with N Corp's ideals of believing that pain is necessary to be considered human, but he never came to a conclusion. In the past, Meursault was more open to elaborating on his thoughts without being prompted to do so, but after he found that people were often unable to accept what he had to say he stopped sharing such information with others. He used to wander about to discover the joys of life, and often visited clubs during this time. Meursault has mentioned that he has seen multiple cases of Distortion Phenomenon, but did not confirm if this was related to his time at N Corp.

As a child, Meursault was scolded by his mother in a way he describes as similar to the way that Outis reprimands Don Quixote and Heathcliff in Intervallo III: Miracle in District 20.

Personality

Meursault is a very prompt man, with a penchant for following orders. He speaks bluntly and concisely, never mincing his words. Throughout his first few adventures with the LCB, Meursault is reserved and obedient to the point of not speaking or acting on the sole basis of not having been asked to.

He is noticeably emotionally distant, never emoting nor approaching matters from a non-logical standpoint. While he has a heightened awareness of the world around him, often noticing details others do not, he has trouble discerning which observations are worth sharing. This leads to situations wherein he either shares too much, such as reciting irrelevant emoticons while reading off an email, or shares too little, as when he failed to report the sudden disappearance of Limbus Company's target one time. He also has a tendency to struggle with social cues, such as by provoking others unintentionally, characterizing him as somewhat awkward in the process. Meursault makes an effort to learn from his mistakes, however, and is quick to adapt after criticism.

With time, Meursault has begun to share some of his thoughts and take initiative without being ordered to. Yet, his prolonged and inexpressive manner of speech often leads to others jumping to conclusions and cutting him off before he can finish speaking. While most of his comments remain tailored to the logistics of the present situation, he may occasionally admit to something more vulnerable, such as feelings of nostalgia. And while many of his judgements are extremely objective and utilitarian, following only the will of the manager, some do take others' feelings into consideration.

Meursault mentions having wandered "in search of life's joys". In the process, he appears to have experienced many facets of life, picking up a variety of skills including cooking, massages, and fighting prowess. He also dedicates himself to staying up-to-date on City matters, opting to read the newspaper each morning.

Appearance

Meursault is a tall, well-built man with slicked-back black hair and small green eyes. He possesses a sharp face with a thick neck and wide eyebrows. He wears the Limbus Company vest, but opts not to overlay it the standard company coat. Underneath his vest is the typical white collared shirt and red tie. His ID hangs from his right breast. Meursault's belt is notably different from the other sinners', and rather than being fitted with several silver frames, has one large, rusted chain link for a buckle in the middle.

In battle, Meursault wields two elbow-length gauntlets in battle; the lower portion of the right gauntlet has the word "SOLEIL" emblazoned on it.
