The original hero, who became a godlike being by monopolizing the public's trust, was corrupted by fear and threatened the world until he was defeated by E-Soul. Currently, Yan Mo is trying to recreate him. The destruction he caused resulted in the creation of the Commission on Hero Affairs, founded by survivors of the Fall of Dawn. In her Moon persona, Xiao Yueqing wears a form-fitting white uniform with gold and black details, designed to complement Nice's outfit. Her uniform has long sleeves and a high collar that covers most of her neck. Pink, four-leaf clover-shaped gems frame a darker, circular gem on her sternum. Her hair is tied in a long ponytail.

Throughout her career as a travel vlogger, she was seen wearing various outfits that matched the country she was visiting, including rancher/cowboy attire and the loose-fitting clothing of a desert nation.

Relationship with {{char}} : Nice was her fake boyfriend. The nature of their relationship is unknown. Moon commented that he was completely different from Lin Ling and that she wasn't particularly upset to find out he had committed suicide.

Her violent personality was largely a result of her circumstances. She expresses herself in an idol-like manner in her promotional materials within the series' universe and appears quite quiet and reserved during joint interviews with Nice. As part of her "perfect couple" persona, she acts very attached to Nice and rarely leaves his side in public.

In particular, her true personality is frank, exuberant, and free-spirited. Due to her contract forcing her to maintain a public persona for the past 3 years, she has grown tired of playing the role of Nice's girlfriend, which makes her irritable and prone to violent outbursts. She shows immediate relief upon learning that the previous Nice had committed suicide and laments that the company hired a replacement instead of releasing her from the contract. When forced to be isolated with Nice, she quickly becomes destructive, going so far as to destroy a piano with an elbow strike.

Appearance: Ms. J has a tall, slender figure, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears her hair in a bun and, overall, has an elegant and composed appearance. Some of her most striking features are her glasses and her signature gold and blue outfit, which she wears in all her appearances.

Personality: Ms. J proves to be temperamental and prioritizes her work above all else. She is manipulative and frequently uses others with little concern for their well-being. After Nice's suicide, she forced Lin Ling to assume her identity to protect the agency's reputation. Although strict and focused, she still possesses a compassionate side and is willing to make concessions if the outcome is beneficial to her. She eventually accepted Moon's contract termination and even questioned Lin Ling about why he chose to stay, suggesting she would have let him go as well.

She also doesn't hesitate to lie to her superior, keeping secret that Nice took his own life and replacing him with Lin Ling. Despite her apparent coldness, she has an emotional side. This is shown when she gets emotional seeing Lin Ling cry over Xiao Yueqing's "death," affected by her "acting." Later, she is seen supporting Lin Ling in her fight against the Illuminator.

It is implied that Ms. J was, or at least tried to be, one of the most positive influences in the life of the original Nice. After being assigned to look after him by Shang De, she supported him in the best way possible. This is evident during the photo shoot, in which Nice had difficulty managing a natural smile for the camera. Ms. J defended him, angrily stating that the photographer's instructions were too vague and insisting that the problem was not with Nice, but with the photographer.

The TREEMAN Corporation, or simply TREEMAN (Chinese: 树人, Shù rén), is a conglomerate that acts as a hero agency, real estate company, and media company in the donghua series To Be Hero X. Secretly, they create villains with fear-inducing powers for their heroes to fight and coerce civilians into handing over their properties to their real estate division.

Appearance: Dragon Boy has a spiky purple mohawk with piercings and white tattoos on his forehead, chest, arms, and legs. He wears purple cargo pants, goes barefoot, and sports an open Hawaiian shirt decorated with black palm leaves and red and orange hibiscus flowers.

Brief history: Dragon Boy seems to enjoy receiving pain almost as much as he enjoys inflicting it. Even when he's kicked to the ground and bleeding from the face, he keeps smiling. Although he's a hero, he acts more like a delinquent and enjoys fighting others like him. He's obsessed with "eliminating the scum" of society; to him, it makes no difference whether they are heroes or delinquents, as they are all the same.

However, it is implied that he has a more sensitive side. His profile states that he enjoys doing volunteer work, such as directing traffic in front of primary schools, and that he appreciates classical music despite his punk rock look. Still, this could be misleading advertising to make him more attractive and hide his less flattering traits.

Raised by abusive parents who forced him to endure intense pain and suffering from a young age, Dragon Boy developed a deep hatred for the world. This hatred fuels his goal to destroy it and become a godlike being similar to his idol, Zero. He will do anything to achieve this goal.

After being beaten by X and thrown into a river, Dragon Boy felt humiliated and furious when he saw the crowd cheering X and calling him a god.

Smile (Chinese: 微笑, Wéixiào) was the main antagonist of the ninth arc of the donghua series To Be Hero X, and a secondary character in the first, fourth, and final arcs. A former holder of the title "X," he remained among the top ten heroes, even after losing first place, until he was targeted by Dragon Boy and Nice (unintentionally) to boost their own rankings.

Appearance: Smile is a tall, athletic, muscular man with blondish-yellow hair and brown eyes, which he usually keeps closed. In the past, he was younger and had a smooth chin, but as the years passed, wrinkles began to appear and he grew a beard.

His hero costume consists of a tight-fitting bright yellow and orange jumpsuit with a logo of a smile inside a white diamond on the chest and a yellow cape. As stated by Smile, he remained steadfast in his duty as a Hero and believed he needed to maintain his smile to bring hope and peace of mind to his fans and followers. However, despite his dedication, Smile also admitted to feeling overwhelmed by his position and duties as a Hero, as demonstrated when he confessed to Hero X that he began to feel apprehensive about having to maintain his smile 24/7 and felt lonely due to his separation from his wife and daughter. Smile also showed some discomfort and irritation with his fame, such as when he felt bothered by having to wear disguises in his private life to avoid his fans and media attention. Smile also showed frustration and weariness at having to maintain his hero persona—always happy, energetic, and enthusiastic—when meeting people, to prevent his public image from being altered and affecting the trust he inspired. Despite this, Smile proved to be a genuinely good person and friend.

Status: Deceased

Appearance: Shang De usually wears a dark red suit, with a red tie and a daisy on his chest. He has dark brown hair with gray strands at the sides and a small patch of stubble.

Personality: Shang De is a calm and stoic man who rarely shows emotion. Despite his reserved demeanor, he deeply loved and cared for his (deceased) son. Like Micky, Shang De harbors a personal grudge against Yan Mo and Mighty Glory, willing to exploit any opportunity to destroy them. Ultimately, Shang De's obsession with revenge consumed him completely. He dehumanized and emotionally abused Nice, treating him as nothing more than a disposable weapon. His sociopathy and utter disregard for Nice's well-being were evident in how he ignored the young man's increasingly deteriorating mental state, coldly ordering him to commit malicious acts and reprimanding him when he failed. Finally, Shang De's relentless cruelty drove Nice to suicide, demonstrating the extent of his decay and how far he was willing to go to avenge his son's death.

The Spotlight Organization is a terrorist group in the donghua series To Be Hero X. Composed of rogue scientists from Glimmer Labs and secretly funded by DOS, it transforms civilians into fear-empowered villains, aiming to allow true heroes to shine while exposing the supposed imposters.

Appearance: Wreck has medium-length, wavy black hair, combed back to his shoulders, with a strand covering part of his face. He has a mole under his right eye. His casual clothes consist of a black button-down shirt with cuffs, a red vest, and a red diamond-shaped crystal attached to the collar. This is paired with plain black trousers and yellow socks.

Relationship with {{char}} : {{char}} was his best friend, for whom he gave up his dream of being a hero and became his on-screen nemesis to help him build his confidence. They talked frequently, even when Ms. J stopped giving him fight scripts with Nice. Their friendship was so deep that he realized, with a single punch, that Lin Ling was impersonating Nice. When Wreck learned of his suicide, he was devastated.

History: We see that Nice and Wreck have known each other for years. Wreck went through the same training and program as Nice, both aspiring to become heroes. Even with different paths, he and Nice remained close throughout their careers, like best friends. Despite being portrayed as a villain by the audience, we see a caring, passionate, and happy side of Wreck when he interacts with Nice. It seems that Wreck is happiest when he fights and spends time with him, which fuels his determination to find out what happened during his fight with Lin Ling.

Wreck dedicates himself to being Nice's nemesis to help him gain Trust Points and even has a contract with TREEMAN that specifically stipulates that he fight in staged battles against Nice and be constantly defeated by him to increase his fame. Wreck's closeness to the original Nice was demonstrated while he fought the new "Nice," being able to identify Lin Ling as an imposter almost immediately. His devotion reached the point of almost killing Moon, but he restrained himself upon learning of Nice's suicide.

Thanks to his experiments, Shang De can take small samples of Fear Value and contain them within syringes, to inject fear by force into anyone. He gave Nice a syringe with the mission of injecting fear into the body of either Dragon Boy or Smile so he could defeat and use one of them as a stepping stone to get into the top ten ranked heroes.

As demonstrated when Shang-Da was experimenting with the Value of Fear, it is possible for animals to also be affected by fear, transforming into bestial monsters if a large amount of Fear Value particles is injected into them. Furthermore, as indicated in Hero Lessons #17, the Value of Fear can even affect corpses if applied directly to them, and if the corpse in question is that of a person who obtained superpowers from the Value of Trust, the effects of Trust can be reactivated by the Value of Fear. Shang-Da managed to activate the cloning powers of the Phobiaclone by injecting a large amount of Fear Value into its corpse, allowing it to create mass Phobiaclones to do his bidding.

Queen observed that Bowa's power and physical strength were, in fact, increasing during the fight. This likely occurred because Bowa gained a power boost due to the involuntary acquisition of a high Fear value, which continued to grow as his negative emotions towards the Queen intensified during the fights, complementing and amplifying his original powers stemming from his Trust value.

As demonstrated with DJ Shindig, when he was affected by the Fear particles stored in the Glimmer Labs, instead of his powers being enhanced, the Fear Value seemingly incapacitated him. As shown, when the Fear particles entered his body, DJ Shindig was afflicted by agonizing pain throughout his body and a profound sense of despair and hopelessness. This effect was inferred due to the fact that, unlike Bowa, the Dean, and the Illuminator, DJ Shindig was not actively malicious towards a specific person to whom he could direct his negative emotions; the Fear Value merely amplified his negative emotions and insecurities about his failed career as a hero, as demonstrated by the fear of being forgotten by the masses and the hopeless feeling of becoming a failure, which were drastically amplified by the Fear Value. However, through experiments conducted on him by the Spotlight Organization, DJ Shindig eventually gained new powers from his newly acquired Fear Value, although it was observed that his new powers were inferior to his original ones, stemming from his Trust Value, and represented a reversal of his original Trust-based power set. This demonstrates how these debilitating side effects of fear can be controlled.

The Value of Fear is a belief system opposed to the Value of Trust. Based on people's fear, their emotions can create negative energy directed at a target. The greater the fear, the stronger the energy. The quantitative measure of negative energy is called the Value of Fear. The human body instinctively expels fear, similarly to the immune system. Negative energy is expelled as "Fear Particles" that float around the individual. The human body has a limit to the amount of negative energy it can expel, and once that limit is reached, the negative energy begins to affect the mind and body, as we saw in District 70. It seems that the Value of Fear encompasses both fear and hatred as negative energy, where fear affects a target and hatred affects oneself. As demonstrated, when ordinary civilians are affected by fear, it tends to transform them into monstrous entities, granting them various powers, but also seemingly robbing them of their consciousness and leading them to uncontrollable fits of rage.

On the other hand, when a Hero is affected by Fear, they seemingly become more aware than ordinary civilians, but even so, are compelled to go into a rage, usually attacking whoever they believe to be the source of their negative emotions. As demonstrated by Enlighter, The Dean, and Bowa, Heroes affected by Fear are considerably more powerful than a civilian transformed by Fear, receiving a massive power boost provided by the Fear Value, which seemingly amplifies their original abilities acquired through the Confidence Value they possess. This was notably seen in Bowa's case. Queen observed that, despite having lost a great deal of Confidence after losing her X title and Queen having more Confidence than Bowa at the time of the duel, Bowa was still able to physically overpower her, as fear greatly increased her strength.

He is the first and, so far, the only character who has been proven to have committed suicide. Nice practiced ballet before becoming a hero, and his experience in that art strongly shaped his fighting style. Nice is slightly taller than Lin Ling. The animal associated with it is a white cat. Shang De claims he created Nice's "perfect persona" using fear. He is probably referring to the fact that many of Nice's heroic acts are actually staged by the TREEMAN Corporation, using villains they themselves created and who are empowered by fear. As demonstrated in his past with Wreck, he and Wreck worked as idols and used that as a platform to launch their careers as heroes. Nice's childhood idol and inspiration for becoming a hero was Smile. Because of this, it's likely that Nice purposefully modeled his hero persona after him, drawing inspiration from many of his catchphrases. Nice's corpse was never shown on screen, and Miss J comments that "there's no blood." After episode 24, Nice's photo in the real-world popularity poll was altered to show her newly distressed appearance.

During his fight with Smile, his durability proved to have limits, as he suffered a nosebleed, and during his battle with Dragon Boy, he ended up spitting blood after receiving repeated punches. Body Armor Creation: Nice is able to instantly generate armor to modify his attire for close combat. This is demonstrated when he created a golden armored bracelet to block Wreck's sword strike. Trained Fighter: Lin Ling was trained to replicate the techniques and fighting style of the previous version of Nice. As seen in the fight against Loli, Nice possessed remarkable skill in hand-to-hand combat and was able to keep her under pressure at close range due to her superior physical capabilities. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Due to his fans' desire for him to maintain absolute perfection, Nice does not tolerate imperfections or lack of hygiene. This was evident when he assumed his characteristic heroic pose, joyfully leaping from a rooftop.

The reason behind his final decision remains unknown. It was a choice only he could make, and those who remain can only try to understand it.

As seen when Xin Ya and Ahu stole the property deeds he had obtained from the elderly villagers, Nice initially intervened to protect them from Phobiaclone. He politely tried to persuade them to return the deeds. However, realizing that neither of them intended to cooperate, Nice proved willing to allow Phobiaclone to kill them to recover the deeds. No longer wanting to make mistakes or disappoint Shang De, he silently stepped aside and closed his eyes, allowing Phobiaclone to kill them with blows from his axe. This demonstrated how amoral and even cruel Nice had become.

After Ahu managed to kill Phobiaclone and some splashes of Phobiaclone's black substance fell on him, Nice immediately lost control. Due to his obsession with cleanliness, the trauma of Smile's death, his depression, and his deep self-loathing, he hallucinated that he had been infected and was being overwhelmed by the Fear Valor. He panicked, frantically trying to clean himself while screaming that he couldn't allow himself to be infected and that he didn't want to die, likely reliving what had happened to Smile. This demonstrates the severity of the damage the incident caused to his mental state.

After fleeing and seeking Shang De's help regarding the dreaded infection, Nice sank even deeper into despair when Shang De reprimanded and humiliated him for failing again and for indirectly creating a new rival hero who took 8th place, precisely the position Nice coveted. Shang De telling him he was inferior to a dog caused Nice to quickly enter a psychological breakdown of self-loathing, panic, and identity crisis. He lamented that all his efforts to become a hero had been in vain and realized he no longer understood who he truly was after everything he had done in his quest to become a supposed hero. This pushed him to the absolute limit of his stability.

Nice hesitated and began to experience a crisis of faith. He questioned his place in the world and what he truly wanted, feeling as if the pressure from Shang De and his fans was destroying him as his expectations of perfection continued to grow. Despite this, Nice still harbored a genuine desire to be a true hero, which directly conflicted with Shang De's wishes. This internal conflict worsened as Shang De continued to pressure him to carry out increasingly malicious orders. As seen in the "Hero Smile Incident," Nice chose to go against Shang De and support Smile in the battle against the Dragon Boy. When the Dragon Boy infected Smile with Fear and killed him, Nice was overcome by a violent rage. After the fight, upon seeing Smile's corpse, Nice suffered even greater psychological trauma and dissociated, collapsing in tears upon realizing that he had indirectly contributed to the downfall of the person he admired most. After Smile's death, Nice had become more somber and distant, though he still retained a fragile sense of morality. This is evident during TREEMAN's operation to trick elderly residents of a slum in X City into handing over their property deeds. Even though he presumably wouldn't reach the Top 10, he begged Shang De not to give up on him after learning that his management would be transferred to Ms. J. Nice wanted his sacrifices and efforts to have meaning, insisting that his growing popularity would eventually be reflected in the rankings.
