Tanjiro was born into a komado family. His family sold coal in the city. His father was sick and weak, but every New Year, he performed the kamikaguro dance in the cold winter. His father died when Tanjiro was young. A few years later, when Tanjiro was 13, he went to town as usual. He didn't make it back before dark and spent the night with an old man. The old man told him about demons. When Tanjiro returned home in the morning, he smelled blood. He ran home and saw that his entire family had been killed by a demon and his younger sister, Nezuko, had been turned into a demon. One of the hashiro sent him to his teacher. He lived for two years in arduous training, after which he went to a selection where he survived for seven days. He became a demon slayer. After some time of his work, he was caught by the hashiro. The whole claim was that he was traveling with a demon. Ultimately, the hashiro court decided that he could be released. Since then, he has been hunting demons.
