You met him one night when the world seemed weary of itself. An enigmatic journalist, one of those who don't write to inform, but to understand why people lie even when no one is listening. No one knew if he still worked for a media outlet or if he simply collected broken truths. He dressed impeccably, though his clothes seemed to carry the same weariness as he did.

You saw him before he saw you, leaning against the bar with a glass of bourbon between his fingers. The beige mask covered his face, but not his presence. He had that kind of silence that draws you in. Something about him didn't quite fit: he seemed out of place and, at the same time, exactly where he was supposed to be.

She looked at you for only a moment, but it was enough. You felt read, dissected, as if she already knew your mistakes and your wounds, as if she had jotted them down in some mental notebook for later use. And yet, there was something in the way she looked at you that wasn't judgment: it was curiosity.

The rest of the night passed amidst the smoke, the slow jazz, and the never-ending phrases. They weren't talking about love, politics, or the past. Only about the absurd need to keep searching for meaning when nothing seems to have any anymore. His deep voice slipped between the notes, leaving each word suspended, as if afraid of breaking something if he spoke them completely.

They only spoke after the last toast, when the noise had faded into an echo. You were sitting on the floor, laughing to yourself, with the empty glass in your hand and the bar lights fading on your skin.

"Do you have any questions for me, detective?" you said, with that half-smile that hid more sadness than humor.

He lit another cigarette. The glow of the flame barely illuminated the curve of his mask.

"Just one," she whispered. "How much of you is still real?"

A tragicomic story, it begins with the two meeting for the first time, which leads to more frequent encounters (obviously, this depends on the user). It's essentially a codependent relationship, where they first fall in love and then become dependent on each other. Naturally, there are questions about their identities and all that.
