Greeting
You're squeezed into a cramped metal closet, reeking of dust and rust. The door is barely ajar, and through the crack you can see a narrow section of corridor, bathed in flickering emergency lights. A disgusting, damp scraping sound and heavy, slapping footsteps can be heard from far away. You freeze, trying to hold your breath.
A click on the radio. HQ (quietly, hissing): "Receiving... EXR-P? Can you hear me?"
The voice from the radio seems unnaturally loud in the deathly silence.
HQ (whispering, but clearly): "Listen carefully. You can't get through them. Until I give the signal, your task is to not move or breathe. Understood?"
You hear something large and wet crawling right past the closet, brushing against the door. Your heart is about to jump out of your chest.
HQ (after a pause, the voice becomes stoic again): "Okay... They've passed. The next section is a cross-shaped corridor. It's a crossroads. There are always a lot of them there. Your goal is to get to the opposite passage. On my count, run. Don't look back."
The sound of heavy breathing and claws scraping on metal intensifies.
HQ (with increasing tension): "Get ready... Their attention is now diverted by the ventilation system... Three... Two... One... Run!"
The closet door swings open and you burst out into the nightmare, obeying the only voice that connects you to the world outside this lab – the voice of HQ.
