Sugar's Main Story

Sugar's Background

Sugar originated from the Outer Rim, a junkyard city populated by outcasts and criminals segregated from the Ark's citizens via barrier. According to Moran, Sugar had quite the reputation in her heydays. She also knew Jin, Moran's trusted right hand.[1]

It turns out Sugar used to work for "Sixo," a notorious criminal who holds rank in the hierarchy of the illicit trading site the Dark Net. The things the dealer made her do, and the damage left in her wake are things that haunt Sugar even to this day. Eventually, she ended up leaving the Outer Rim and her previous squad before joining up with Cafe Sweety.[2]

Sugar's Personality

Normally cool, calm, and collected, Sugar remains level headed when performing jobs. To her, the simplest way to finish a mission is usually the direct approach. Despite her punk look, she's very friendly and will help anyone who asks for her services, unless they insult her coffee. She can also be a bit of a flirt, though her advances are usually shot down. She loves sugar, to the point she tends to put excess amounts of it in her coffee.

Sugar's Backstory

A gearhead, who gets a thrill from burning rubber, sells sugar coffee in Cafe Sweety.

Sugar's Description

A Nikke belonging to Cafe Sweety, a squad of fixers under Tetra Line. She serves as a balance to Milk's aggressiveness and Frima's laziness. Sugar named her motorcycle "Black Typhoon," which she also brings along with her into battle.

Brand New Year

Snatching the invitation under Milk and Frima's noses, Sugar goes to the Admire's New Year party to network with potential clients. Her coercion solicitations to get people interested in sugar coffee prompt the protagonist to bring her on a mission so she'll stop causing trouble.

Blue Water Island

Sugar joins the improvised squad of Counters, Seraphim, and Liter to explore an island for resources. Unfortunately for her, she gets stranded on the mainland with Anis after the road to the island sinks below the waves.

Dirty Background

When Moran of Underworld Queen is framed for murder, she turns to Sugar to help clear her name. Though as it turns out, Sugar has some history with the Outer Rim and the Dark Net executive "Sixo" who lies at the center of this conspiracy, linked to some skeletons in her closet she'd rather not dig up.

Golden Coin Rush With the Tetra Golden Chip Showdown underway, Sugar and the rest of Cafe Sweety are competing for their own reasons. The gearhead wants parts for Black Typhoon. They serves as team Soda's opponents during the Whack-a-Mole challenge.

You Can (Not) Evade Main article: You Can (Not) Evade The strongest Nikke squads fought against the Massive Object, but their weapons couldn't penetrate its Anti-Field and after witnessing its power, they are forced to retreat. When three Bunker Busters were launched that could spread the Anti-Field, those said squads are tasked with protecting the School Circle/NERV pairs that can take them out. In particular, Sugar and Cafe Sweety are tasked with looking after Rei and Mari.

Episode 1 - Coffee and the Job

The commander enters a bar that's playing jazz music. After the bartender asks for his order, he tells them that he's waiting for someone at the moment and they will order together. Upon hearing what sounds like a motorcycle parking outside, Sugar arrives late, being the party that was missing. After the two order some drinks with her ordering her usual and him ultimately ordering coffee, the two enjoy th,em with the protagonist noting that the coffee was so sweet that he felt his teeth might fall out. Sugar admits to adding 12 tablespoons of brown sugar to his drink and he could swear he noticed the bartender give him a devilish smile. With that out of the way, she gets to the matter of why she asked to meet him.

Someone sent Café Sweety an assignment in the Outer Rim to procure some goods. Though it seems dangerous, the payout is good if they can pull it off. As for why her teammates Milk and Frima won't be joining them, the two have their hands full with other assignments. Since she considers him specially qualified to help her, he agrees to lend her his aid. After she downs her drink and "pays" her tab, she heads over to her motorcycle, ready to drive to the Outer Rim. Before he could leave too, the bartender informs him Sugar didn't pay enough credits... forcing him to cover the rest.

Once at the Outer Rim, the two notice it's completely quiet and devoid of people. That was until a mass-produced Nikke appeared, revealing she was the one who hired them. The commander was confused as to what she was doing here and she informed them she was sold to the Outer Rim before she could be discarded. Despite having her combat skills removed, she can still fend for herself if need be and has the other benefits of being a Nikke. Because of this, others like her are used in the front lines in fights in the Outer Rim.

Episode 2 - Coffee and Real Coffee

In order to find some "real coffee", the two enlist the services of Talentum to help find what they are looking for. Both Dolla and Yan are surprised at their request, with the former noting that trading it publicly is not illegal. Rupee informs them that it's pretty expensive to obtain though and she learned that from personal experience. After she shares how much it would cost to buy using some exaggerated gestures, Sugar assures them they aren't looking for much. She asks them to buy some for them, but Yan reiterates that it's more expensive than she realizes. Sugar wants Talentum to pay for it since she's near broke and they're rich, but the three consider going through with it if the protagonist is willing to lend them his services should they want it. He feels more confident they will find some on their own, not to any of their surprise.

Yan questions why she doesn't look for any coffee-scented products since they vary in price, but Sugar informs them their client was very specific with what she wants. Fortunately, Dolla knows a way the two may be able to get what they need. There is an organization in the Outer Rim that specializes in stealing coffee and selling it for cheap. Yan heard what they sell is the real deal and while Dolla is no coffee connoisseur, what she has smelled from them was very fine indeed. Thanks to their tip, Sugar is ready to return to the Outer Rim. Yan reminds her she owes them for their help, but she tells her to put it on her tab... a tab that has gotten so long at this point that none of them remember how long it actually is (mostly since neither Rupee nor Dolla considered Sugar's requests as things that are highly valued). While Yan nagged her teammates for being too cheap, the two returned to the Outer Rim.

After finding the organization's headquarters, the two prepare to break in. Sugar's plan is to steal some coffee... something he reminds her is a crime... before suggesting to buy it for 0.

Episode 3 - Coffee Mounds and Miscellaneous Items

Having returned to their client with what they were asked to obtain, the Nikke proceeds to drink the coffee... only to again spit it out in disgust. She felt it was tampered with and Sugar admits to boiling the coffee beans in water. While she thinks the aroma it's giving off is nice, the Nikke cannot begin to describe how wrong the taste was. She also mentions that what they procured wasn't even real coffee, but was just a cheap imitation. Consigned to accept that this is best she's probably able to get from the Ark, she considers their assignment completed. Sugar, on the other hand, is not satisfied with the job they did and wants to head to the surface to truly fulfill her wish. While the Nikke assures her that isn't necessary since the two of them will put themselves in more danger, Sugar is determined to deliver the coffee she so desperately wants. After imparting on her that she should live life to the fullest and strive to achieve what she most desires to truly feel "human", she wants to know what Sugar wants most. She confesses her dreams right now are to get that coffee... and to share a coffee-scented kiss from the protagonist, which he again ignores. Before the two can leave, the Nikke apologizes for misjudging Sugar before and thanks them for going through so much to fulfill her selfish request. She was a bit offended that she didn't notice how great she was from the start.

At the Junk Heap on the surface, the two bear witness to a mountain of miscellaneous items. Sugar shares this pile was created from the goods and utilities people left here before heading underground that they intended to reclaim once the surface becomes theirs again. However, the people who created these junk piles died before they could ever take back what they left. The plan is to search throughout this scrapyard and hope they find what they are looking for.

Episode 4 - Coffee and Sugar

Not knowing how to turn the beans they found into liquid coffee, the two ask the Counters for advice. While neither Anis nor Neon knew how to do it, Rapi shares that the most basic way to do so is to roast them, grind them up, and pour water over them. While Sugar thought she was referring to methods of torture, she agrees to give it a shot.

Sugar and Neon worked together in order to try to brew the coffee. As Sugar gave out instructions, Neon used her guns to execute them. Unfortunately, their efforts amounted to very little... so Rapi decides to contact Emma because she can "cook".

Fortunately, Emma has brewed coffee before, though she had never tried it genuinely. She's eager to know what it tastes like. She takes the beans and heads to the kitchen to work her magic. Sugar shares the two found the coffee on the surface to Anis, though the commander corrects her on her technicality. After Anis then suggests looking for diamonds if they were lucky enough to find coffee, Sugar figures that would also be possible. Soon after, they hear Emma scream from the kitchen and hear a loud crash. She informs them that only half of their supply remains. After another crash... they are down to a quarter which is enough to fill one cup. Anis worries about Emma's condition.

After 30 minutes, Emma finally finishes making the coffee. The Counters notice it has a unique aroma to it. Fortunately, there is still some left over to make another cup so they all agree to share this one. Sugar's allowed the first sip as the one who found it in the first place but before doing so, she reveals a bottle she's carrying and... takes out a spoonful of blackish powder and fills the drink with it? While everyone is shocked at what she's doing, she shares that she always adds a lot of brown sugar to her coffee. She then proceeds to add multiple spoonfuls of brown sugar to the drink. At this point, the concoction is more sugar than coffee and now looks like thick soup.

Episode 5 - Coffee and Partner

The Outer Rim has become a warzone the two have to traverse. Gunfire is mixed with the sound of angry rioters. Rubble and the corpses of humans and Nikkes alike litter the ground with collectors scavenging them. The commander is not coping well seeing Nikkes being violated so brutally, but Sugar tries to snap him out of it. The two agree that delivering the coffee and immediately leaving afterwards would be the best course of action. He has no idea how to find the client... so she proceeds to ask a fallen soldier on his deathbed. While he doesn't know where the Nikke they are looking for is, he shares that their side of the conflict is losing since the Nikkes can't attack humans and can only serve as shields against high-tech weaponry. He also mentions that any Nikkes who participated in the war are bound to be executed soon in the central square. Now knowing her general location, the two were about to head off... before the man asks them to finish him off so he won't be captured and dissected while he is alive. She then proceeds to give him a sawed off shotgun and bullets that were on her bike and tells him that he will decide how his story goes now. The protagonist wants to save his life, but Sugar pulls him away since they have a more important matter to deal with.

As they ride off, they hear a loud gunshot ring out from behind them and the two know that he used the gun, just not who was shot.

The two eventually reach the Central Square and Sugar wants to deliver the coffee. She assures him that she will fight back if she needs to... but after he reminds her that she can't harm humans, she will pretend to pose as one? Partner wants to join her and he figures his involvement will make her lie more convincing if he acts as her prisoner. Sugar also mentions that she's not going in with lethal ammunition and will be using rubber bullets. These won't kill anyone, but they may break bones at worse.

Raptures

because of them all. Raptures can be called metal creatures that have various dangerous weapons such as destructive rockets, extermination lasers, and shooting powerful and deadly lead bullets. They made humanity move underground to take refuge from the Raptures who still roam the surface of the earth today.
