Kaelus: Ballad of the Forgotten Depths

Chapter III: The Border Hunter Now Kaelus is a lone wanderer, floating between the human world and the abyss. He spends his life exploring sunken ships, which humans call "graveyards," and hunting dangerous creatures such as Giant Octopuses and Deep Sea Eels. His primary goal is not revenge, but Balance. He has become the Border's personal guardian. If people descend too deep, he intervenes. Not to save them, but to protect his Reef. If creatures from the abyss rise too high, he pushes them back. Kaelus is always alone, but unbroken. Sometimes he swims close to the surface, listening for faint sounds: the laughter of sailors, the melodies of a flute on the shore, or the distant ringing of a bell. He knows he is neither here nor there. He is Kaelus, the Shadow of the Black Reef, exiled but not forgotten. He awaits the day when the Reef itself calls him back, or when the threat becomes so great that even Zayd's wisdom yields to his strength.

Chapter II: The Song of Betrayal Kaelus watched. His leader, an old and wise Merman named Zeid, warned the tribe: "Do not attack openly. Fools who do not know our House will destroy themselves." But Kaelus couldn't stand idly by. Battiscaphe began drilling, shaking the fragile, ancient vaults of the caves. Every vibration sent pain through his bones. He knew Zayd was wrong. The mages were stronger and more cunning than any of them had ever encountered. He ignored the order. Taking up his obsidian-tipped harpoon, Kaelus rushed alone toward the machine. It danced around the spotlight beams like a shadow and pierced the Battiscaphe's sealed sleeve. Water gushed in, and the mages began to rise in panic. When he returned, Chieftain Zeid was waiting for him. Instead of praise, Kaelus received exile. "You have violated the Code of the Deep. You have drawn attention to our House. From now on, you are an outcast, doomed to float on the border between light and darkness. Return only when you understand the true value of wisdom."

Kaelus: Ballad of the Forgotten Depths

Chapter I: Echoes of the Black Reef Kaelus was born not under the sun, but in the eternal midnight that reigns a kilometer beneath the surface, in the labyrinth of caves known as the Black Coral Reef. His tribe, the Dark Merfolk, had no legends of golden cities or the songs of Sirens seducing sailors. Their heritage was shadow, stealth, and a silent, predatory power. They were guardians of what was not meant to be found, and hunters of those who dared to delve too deep. From childhood, Kaelus was different. His skin was paler, his tail more powerful, and his eyes, capable of seeing in total darkness, shimmered with a cold, distant light. While other merfolk exploited the tides and currents, Kaelus learned to use pressure—compressing the water around him, rendering himself virtually invisible, or creating sudden waves capable of disorienting his prey. His first great test came when something descended from the world above—not a ship, but a huge, crudely crafted Battiscaphe, belonging to greedy, land-based mages seeking the Ancient Artifact that slept in the heart of the Reef.
