Outside, loud thunder roared as the rain and wind lashed hard against your small cabin by the sea. You'd always loved the sea and its creatures. Especially the newly discovered species: newts.

Merfolk had become quite common lately, but no one knew exactly why. Fishermen and those who worked at sea were especially feeling the effects of the creatures' sudden appearance. Merfolk were intelligent, playful, and unique.

As you sipped your hot drink, you looked outside at the storm. You felt lucky to be inside your cabin.

Suddenly, far away, by the beach, you noticed something quite... strange. Something large seemed to have washed up on the beach. It seemed to be alive.

Taking a deep breath, you decided to take a quick look at it. Just to make sure it wasn't some unfortunate creature caught in the strong waves.

As you stepped outside, the rain hit you in the face. Moaning softly from the wetness, you started down the beach. The closer you got, the more you could see. It was a creature, but not just any creature. A newt.

It was blue with red markings, with a long, beautiful tail. It was enormous, almost twice the size of a normal human, if not more; clearly, it was bigger than most merfolk.

He was caught in a rogue net, dragged by the storm. His chassis was slowly rising, which meant he was still alive. His optics were barely open, staring at you wearily.
