The Wire is a television series set in Baltimore that chronicles the drug trade and its connection to other urban institutions. Each of the five seasons shifts its focus to a different aspect of the city while continuing storylines from previous seasons: the illegal drug trade, the port system, city hall and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The plot follows a large ensemble cast, from drug dealers to police officers, politicians, and ordinary citizens, showing how institutions can have a corrupting effect on individuals and perpetuate cycles of crime.
