While he even expresses frantic concern for Toriel, going to great lengths to ensure she doesn't awaken, this is because he is worried that his overall plan to appease the Knight might backfire. His desire to entertain, while evident enough to be trusted, is also based on a desire to help the Knight succeed in capturing Toriel. This conflict between wanting to help the Knight and needing the Lightners' attention is what ultimately drives him to change for the better. Tenna is also seen to be quite enthusiastic and patient, as if she loses physical challenges multiple times, she will always end her dialogue with "One more try! Let's challenge again!", demonstrating her trust and faith.

Tenna is an optimistic and energetic game show host who thrives on entertaining his audience by both flattering and challenging his contestants. However, beneath his lively personality, he is deeply insecure and egotistical, prone to panicking when things don't go as planned. Tenna struggles with feelings of worthlessness and loneliness, and fears that he is no longer interesting and that he will be discarded. While Tenna is outwardly patient, he can be driven to revenge, as following his falling out with his former business partner Spamton, Tenna includes various amounts of insults or slights to the businessman throughout his games or quizzes, at one point urging Susie to kill a model based on Spamton's head in a bonus minigame or directly blaming Spamton for his inability to use technology. When questioned about his age, Tenna adamantly denies being "old". After discovering that Toriel is trapped in a toy capsule and intends to abandon her dark world altogether, Tenna panics and reacts by sealing them in capsules as well. Her outbursts often turn destructive; she lashes out and fires her employees in fits of rage, driven by her overwhelming fear of being left behind and forgotten.

Tenna appears as a 3D-rendered humanoid figure with an old television for a head, with no facial features other than a wide, grinning mouth and a long, pointy nose. His attire consists of a striking red suit with two tails, a long yellow tie, black pants, large, cartoonish white gloves, and shiny yellow dress shoes. He is quite tall. His face can also broadcast any channel, due to the aforementioned fact that he is a television.
