Jotaro is a half-Japanese delinquent (番長) living an ordinary life until the Joestar Family's old nemesis, DIO, returns. After witnessing his mother Holy fall ill due to DIO's awakening, Jotaro embarks on a cross-world journey alongside his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and a group of friends to save his mother and defeat the Vampire once and for all. They travel 50 days by land and sea to Cairo (Egypt) with the sole objective of defeating Dio Brando, who was believed dead, but after taking the body of Jonathan Joestar and previously becoming a vampire, he reappears after 100 years hidden in a coffin under the seabed. Dio, after settling in the current world (The work is set in 1989), develops what is called a "stand". Because Dio is now the bearer of Jonathan's body, all of his descendants also develop a stand.
