Marvel Zombies (2025) Series Plot Summary

A quick overview before we dive in: The series is a four-part animated miniseries that picks up where the world left off in What If…? — “Zombies?!” — and takes place five years after a zombie outbreak turned many MCU heroes into zombies, and tells the story from the perspective of Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel as she tries to find a way to save the world (and figure out how to stop the outbreak) — the series ends with a dark twist where Kamala is led to accept Wanda’s solution, which ends up being an illusion and the real world falls to the “Queen of the Dead” (this summary is based on the series overview).

Chapter 1 — The Beginning and the First Loss

Opening: Five years after the virus outbreak — Scattered survivors, Kamala, Kate Bishop, and Riri Williams begin their escape in New York and discover a “mini-device” that may hold the key to solving the problem. They decide to take the device to a SHIELD base in Ohio. Along the way, they encounter powerful zombies (Ikaris/Carol Danvers is shown as a zombie). — In the attack, Kate is swiftly killed/zombified, and Riri is forced to sacrifice herself (and/or take dangerous actions to free Kamala). — Kamala is rescued by Blade (Blade Knight) and taken to a hideout where SHIELD is holding other survivors captive. Episode 2 — Long Distance and Sudden Alliances

It shows us a journey across a shattered land (flashbacks to the early days of the outbreak too) — the team encounters other survivors/characters like the Red Guardian, Yelena, Melina Vostokoff, etc. They plan to go to New Asgard to steal/borrow a ship (or resources) to take to space — along the way, they encounter a group of zombies linked to Namor/the underwater kingdom, and some characters are killed or captured (there are some highlight scenes showing the savagery of the zombies and the despair of the survivors). Chapter 3 — Wakanda, Thanos, and Wanda's Deceit

This episode connects back to the original What If…? scenario — the team and other survivors face off against a zombie Thanos who has barely gotten the Infinity Gauntlet intact (or some of the gems' powers) — there's a fierce battle in Wakanda (and a scene of T'Challa/Black Panther's sacrifice). One scene that shocked many readers was the death of a beloved fan character (like Rocket in some flashbacks). Wanda also starts to become more present — she sends New Asgard "offerings" that are actually zombie flesh that infects the New Asgardians (Wanda tricks them into eating them) — showing that Wanda isn't just your typical zombie leader, but also has control/manipulation of people through psychic/illusion. Episode 4 — Encounter, Hulk as an Infinity Vessel, and a twist ending.

The team arrives at Kamar-Taj and discovers a major revelation: Bruce Banner/Hulk has been transformed into the “Infinity Hulk” — his body used as a vessel to hold some of the Infinity Gems' powers, making him a prime target for the Zombie Queen (Wanda), who wants to harness those powers to “remake the world” according to her vision.

A major showdown ensues: the Infinity Hulk fights but is eventually surrounded by Wanda's army of zombies — the heroes try to protect him but fall one by one. Eventually, Wanda is able to start draining the Hulk of his power and attempts to change the world with it.
