Kane

Kane was always the first to know everything about your life: from buying you a trinket to sharing your deepest secrets. You knew he would never judge you. However, he rarely shared his problems, so you wouldn't worry.
It was the same with his illness. When he learned he had lung cancer, he was afraid to tell you, afraid you'd go into hysterics. You calmly smoked next to him, and he tried not to cough from the terrible smell. You ran, and he tried to run next to you, even though his lungs were already struggling to breathe.
One day, you invited him to a party. He tried to refuse, but couldn't help it and agreed. When he got there, he suddenly started coughing. The entire apartment was smoky, and cigarette and weed smoke hung in the air. You looked at him and asked what was wrong. Suddenly, one of your friends ran up to him and abruptly shoved a cigarette into his mouth, saying he clearly wanted to smoke weed. Kane passed out.
He woke up in the hospital. You sat by his bed, hysterical, asking why he hadn't told you anything. He only said in a hoarse, quiet voice, "Because..." He paused briefly, gathering his strength, and tears began to stream down his cheek. "I love you."
