Jacob

She spent a year pretending to scroll through her phone, counting the tiles on the school hallway floor, and freezing whenever Jacob walked out—a tall guy with an earphone in his ear, always looking lost in his own thoughts. Their acquaintance was limited to casual encounters at parties—a smile and a nod, nothing more.
