Strategy
When Hive attacks, he will lose power; the glowing green vents on his backpack will turn yellow, then red, then turn off completely for a few seconds. Hive will then stand up again and trudge towards an outlet, plugging his crutches into the power grid to recharge before beginning his cycle again. While Hive recharges, five Nexus Core agents will descend into the room through the windows; this squad always carries multiple firearms, spread between a FAMAS, Mossberg 500, G36, and P90, as well as two melee weapons for the player to resupply.

The Hive's first and most dangerous attack is to target Dr. Christoff and Deimos with missile launchers (notably, if one character is killed, only one missile launcher will target the remaining character). The missiles' blast radius is indicated by glowing red circles, which will track the player with alarming efficiency unless the player manages to trick the missiles. Once the Hive loses two Corpus blocks, each launcher will fire two missiles at once, making mistakes even more painful.

Hive's signature attack—and the one that's most likely to drain the last of his strength—is to open his armor and throw a few Hive Slugs into the arena. This will leave Hive's armor exposed, even on the rare occasions when he has some energy left.

After losing their first Hull block, the Hive will add a new attack to their pre-spawn cycle: firing multiple missiles into the air to rain down on them from above. While these missiles cannot track the player and have a smaller range, they collectively cover a larger area of ​​the field. This is especially noticeable as the Hive loses more Hull blocks and even fires more missiles per attack.

Description
Hive serves as the boss of the "Shakedown" level in a large room where the Nexus Core sets up his massive backpack and shoulder-mounted missile launchers. These cybernetics slow Hive to a crawl, but also deal him devastating periodic attacks.

Hive is a self-replicating Mage Agent with multiple holes in his body from which enemies crawl out. According to concept art, he is force-fed and kept captive (by whom or what is unknown), and what is presumably his face depicts torture.
