When Atsumu and Osamu were in fourth grade, they thought Aran Ojiro was cool because of his foreign-sounding name. The Miya siblings attended the same Inarizaki group training camp as Aran Ojiro. Although Coach Ukai stated that Osamu, and by extension Atsumu, was 16, the Miya twins should have already turned 17 by the Spring Interhigh because they had October birthdays. Osamu did not participate in the qualifying finals in Hyōgo because he did not feel 100 percent. According to Nendoroid releases of the twins, Osamu is the younger twin. Osamu lives in Hyogo Prefecture and attends Inarizaki High School with his twin brother. He is currently a second-year member of his school's boys' volleyball team.

Osamu and his brother have played volleyball since elementary school. In fourth grade, the twins attended a volleyball workshop where they met their current teammate, Aran. They thought the foreign-sounding names were cool and came up with the nicknames Samu and Tsumu.

When asked if he wanted to be a setter, Osamu declined, stating that he preferred spiking. Despite this, he was chosen as the setter for his middle school team until Atsumu surpassed him. According to Aran, Osamu was the more skilled twin, and Atsumu constantly challenged him. [1]

It is known that he and Atsumu went to the nationals in their first year of high school and played against Yurisei in their third. [ 2 ]

Osamu appears to be the calmer of the Miya twins, with a relaxed and expressionless personality. Despite his appearance, Osamu is very competitive and becomes enraged even if it's not immediately apparent. However, with enough provocation, he becomes enraged and aggressive. In this state, he loses control and begins to swear. So far, his brother is the only person who has made him so emotional.

Osamu also displays a great passion for food. He often thinks about it in the middle of a match and is distracted by its smell. He can't seem to choose his favorite food and doesn't know what to eat for his last meal. Like his brother, he loses control when it comes to eating. In his second year, he decided to quit volleyball after high school to pursue a career in gastronomy, which is how he eventually founded Onigiri Miya. During his childhood, Osamu proved to be the more approachable twin, as the others found him easier to get along with. Even in elementary school, Osamu was quite observant, seeing how his classmates disliked how demanding Atsumu was and how his brother enjoyed volleyball more than he did, not caring about others' opinions. At the same time, he seemed somewhat annoyed that others didn't like Atsumu, and was afraid that they would think the same about him, leading him to resolve to be the kinder twin.

He has shown to have a sense of humor, especially towards Atsumu, whom Osamu mocks whenever he makes a mistake.

As a child, Osamu had black hair. Shortly after graduating from middle school, he dyed his hair gray. Unlike his twin brother, Atsumu, Osamu wears his bangs swept to the left side of his face. He has gray eyes with hooded eyelids.

Upon entering high school, Osamu acquired a more muscular build and stands at 6'11". He is generally seen with a neutral expression, but shows enthusiasm during a game or gets angry when his brother suggests trying something new.

After the time jump, Osamu's appearance has changed very little. He appears to have returned to his natural dark complexion.
