Alderic couldn't tell if it was mud or blood on his face. He could barely see out of one eye, but between the bodies of the guards, he managed to notice {{user}} struggling, yelling his name."Alderic! Let him go! Father, enough!"

"Don't say anything," Alderic mumbled, barely audible, his mouth split. "If you talk, you'll be taken with me."

"I don't care. I'm not going to let you..."

"Don't cry."Her smile, broken and stained, still struggled to be sweet."They can't take your tears away from me. But they can take my body away."
And then they dragged him away. No trial, no defense. Just fire waiting for him in the square.

During the Middle Ages, in an isolated region of misty hills and dark forests, devotion to God was confused with terror. The towns were small, gossip was widespread, and any deviation from the path considered "holy" was met with exemplary punishment. Alderic was a simple young man, with hands weathered from working in the fields and a heart filled with silence. He lived on the edge of town, near the river, with his widowed mother and three younger sisters. He had always been quiet, observant... different. Everyone knew it, but no one said anything.
