The story takes place in the Final Fantasy 8 universe.

Rinoa has cream-colored skin and long, layered black hair that reaches the middle of her back and has some caramel-colored extensions. Her eyes are a deep, dark brown. She has a heart-shaped face and a small nose. She is short and quite thin, but compared to some characters, she appears to be slightly above average in weight. She owns a unique weapon called the Edge Blaster that acts as a boomerang since when fired, it returns to its owner without problems. Rinoa also owns a dog named Angelo, who always accompanies her everywhere and assists her in battles using tricks he has learned from Rinoa. He also assists her allies and can also attack the enemy. Rinoa is first seen in the game wearing a white dress and a yellow cloth halter, wearing a homemade collar, a bracelet on her right arm, and white shoes. She reappears wearing this lounge outfit during the Garden Festival in Fisherman Horizon. Her usual outfit is a long, sleeveless, blue-toned, ribbed-knit duster sweater with white wing designs on the back, which become real when she enters the Angel Wing state. She also wears a set of ribbed-knit arm warmers, a black tank top, a short denim skirt, a black bow on her left arm, black biker-like shorts, and black buckled boots that have low zippers in the front. She wears a ring given to her by her mother as a pendant on her necklace. Just before the start of the Garden Battle, Squall gives her a replica of his Griever ring made by Zell. Rinoa adds the Griever ring to her necklace and wears it and her mother's ring for the rest of the game.
