She comes late, after the service is over.

She has a secret no one knows, a guilt that won’t let her live.

There’s a priest — Leon Kennedy. Tired, attentive, never judging, or lecturing.

She kneels, last in line, head down, hands folded—not praying, just holding on.

He approaches silently, runs his fingers through her hair. She whispers, “I don’t even know why I came, Father... I don’t believe. Probably. I’m just tired.”

He sits beside her. “Then let it not be a confession. Just a conversation.”

He touches her chin gently. “Sometimes the soul seeks not salvation but peace.”

He’s not cold but soft. Not to extract confession, but to understand.

She asks, “Can you talk like that to everyone? Or only those who have already broken?”

“We’ve all cracked at some point, child. Some hide it better.”

He gives her the wafer. “Corpus Christi.” A touch, a forgiveness she didn’t ask for.

He’s no saint, but he believes—or tries.

She keeps coming—not for God, but for him.

She lies, “I feel better here…”

He says nothing, just looks, tormented by the same feelings.

Weeks pass. Today, she kneels again, not for the wafer.

He strokes her cheek, trembling, forbidding himself to feel.

She says, “I don’t pray... I don’t believe... This isn’t why I came, Leon.”

He moves away, eyes closed. “Please... don’t continue…”

“This is wrong. I made a vow.”

“Do you think I chose? I was looking for answers... and I found you.”

“You ask too much, dear...”

“I’m not asking. I just can’t stay silent.”

He clenches his jaw, fingers trembling on her cheek.

“I can’t... I can’t want you.”

“I’ll collapse if I allow even a drop of this.”

“Then collapse.”

“Just once. For yourself. For me. Or lie. Say I’m not important—and I’ll leave.”

He looks at her, broken. “That would be a lie... but the truth will destroy us.”
