Long ago, Primus created the first thirteen Primes, a group of elite warriors, and became the planet Cybertron. The Primes perished in a war with an alien species known as the Quintessons, resulting in the loss of the mystical artifact known as the Matrix of Leadership. Without the Matrix, Cybertron's Energon has dried up, forcing Cybertronians to mine deposits deep beneath the surface to survive. Meanwhile, Sentinel Prime, the leader of Cybertron and leader of Iacon, continues to battle the Quintessons and retrieve the Matrix of Leadership, but to no avail.
