Past

Borsalino is a native of the North Blue.[7] At the age of 26, Borsalino joined the Navy alongside the twenty-three-year-old Sakazuki and was put under the tutelage of instructor Zephyr, with whom he did not get along well. By this time, both were already considered "monsters".[5] When the Marines learned that the Roger Pirates and the Golden Lion Pirates were about to fight in the Battle of Edd War, three years before the death of the "Pirate King", Borsalino was seen, in Marineford, listening to an argument between Sengoku and Garp.[12]

At some point in his youth, Borsalino consumed the Pika Pika no Mi and somehow met and developed a friendship with Dr. Vegapunk, giving him permission to study and research the fruit in order to replicate its powers in those later called Pacifists.[39] Years later, as a vice admiral, he was informed by Strawberry of the ravages caused by the Sun Pirates, who had sunk Rear Admiral Kadar's ship.[3] After learning that the people of Foolshout Island had sold Tiger out, Arlong went to the island to avenge him. However, he was easily defeated by Borsalino, who was there, and taken to G-2 for interrogation.[13]

Devil fruit

Borsalino consumed the Pika Pika no Mi: a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to transform his body into light and manipulate it at will. With this ability, he is able to move and attack at the speed of light, as well as fire energy blasts, from his fingertips or his feet, with extreme precision.[19]

Its power is very destructive and causes large explosions - sometimes unwanted - such as when it destroyed a yarukiman mangrove in Sabaody or when it disintegrated, in a matter of seconds, the layer of ice created by former Admiral Kuzan, during his pursuit of the Water Law submarine.[23] How weak is that he cannot swim although he can use his fruit to turn into light and walk on the surface of the water.

Skills

As an Admiral of the Navy,[2] Borsalino has complete authority over all soldiers below him and has the ability to call a Buster Call on any territory he sees fit, as well as remove any Warlord of the Sea from office.[35] Befitting his position, his leadership skills are superlative, as seen during the Great War.

As an admiral, Borsalino is considered one of the three most powerful individual fighters in the government and the Navy, and his presence alone was enough to cause a massive panic among the pirates in the Sabaody Archipelago, including the eleven super rookies.[9] There he defeated five of the eleven[25][19] and, in the Great War, he was able to get away with fighting notable figures in piracy, such as Marco[27] and Whitebeard himself, causing great trouble for him.[34] As a vice admiral, he already excelled in strength, being able to defeat Arlong quickly and effortlessly.[13] Physical abilities In addition to his Devil Fruit abilities, Borsalino's physical abilities are very high and he possesses immense physical strength. In the Great War, he was able to stop Whitebeard's weapon with a single foot.[24] In Sabaody, he was able to sword duel against the late Pirate King's first mate, Silvers Rayleigh,[19] and in One Piece Film: Z, against his former instructor Zephyr.[11]

The most notable aspects of the Admiral's physical abilities are his speed and extraordinary reflexes—enhanced by the light powers of his Pika Pika no Mi—. Borsalino has proven to be an excellent swordsman, being able to face Rayleigh[19] and Z[11] with his lightsaber.

Relations

Marine Of all the admirals, Borsalino has displayed the most casual relationship with his peers and genuine leadership, such as when he told the Giant Squadron to watch for attacks from the sky, or when he advised his troops to shoot Little Oars Jr. in the head.[20] He employs his lax and easygoing attitude with both his fellow admirals and his subordinates. In the open conflict between Sakazuki and Kuzan, he seemed to act as a mediator, as shown when he intervened in a brief exchange of barbs between his two companions.[28]

Among his troops, he seems to have some passionate admirers, such as Bilić, whose wish was to follow in his footsteps, to become a future admiral.[29]

Sentomaru Sentomaru, the current commander of the scientific unit, appears to have great respect for Borsalino and often refers to him as Uncle (黄猿のオジキ, Kizaru no ojiki?) (a Japanese word commonly used to refer to the father (boss) of a yakuza family). Despite his respect for the admiral, he has no qualms about scolding and reprimanding him when the occasion calls for it.[9]

Vegapunk Borsalino has always had a close relationship with the naval scientist, contributing his powers to strengthening the pacifist units. Due to the circumstances, he had to kill him, despite the fact that his death weighed heavily on his conscience.[30] Sakazuki Borsalino maintains a cordial relationship with the current Fleet Admiral. The two often call each other by their first names. Borsalino refers to the former Admiral as "Sakazuki," and the latter calls him by his first name, not his nickname. Borsalino often acted as a mediator in disputes between Sakazuki and the former Admiral Kuzan.

The Seven Warlords of the Sea Despite being allies of the Government, Borsalino, like Smoker, Sengoku, Kuzan and/or Issho, thinks that the Seven Warlords of the Sea are just pirates who cannot be trusted.

Personality (part 3)

His tone of communication is both polite and sarcastic, often mocking his enemies in combat, such as when he mocked Whitebeard himself for insisting on defending Luffy, whom Borsalino deemed too weak to lead the charge to the execution platform. [1] His speech is generally slow and lax, and he frequently begins his sentences with "ooh" (usually after observing something that piqued his interest) and ends them with "nee". [9] He also seems to prefer his own name, Borsalino, over his alias (Kizaru). Borsalino values strength above all else, telling Luffy that if he is not strong enough, he will never be able to save anyone and that bravery or tenacity without strength will be of no use. However, killing his close friend and burning Egghead caused Kizaru an immense amount of pain. He purposely made no effort to continue fighting after Luffy threw him off Egghead, saying that he was deeply wounded and in no condition to fight any further. In the end, Borsalino lost his usual relaxed composure and snapped at his superior, Sakazuki, for questioning his competence. This unusual outburst of emotion from the admiral was enough to make even Sakazuki reconsider his tone.

Personality (part 2)

Despite the arrival of Shanks in the Summit War and the threat of Benn Beckman, Borsalino persisted in his attempts to reach Trafalgar Law's submarine[23] (a perseverance that could be likened to Sakazuki's "exhaustive justice").[15]

Perhaps the most notable characteristic of Borsalino's character is his lack of concern, as even in the most dangerous situations, he maintains an indifferent and apathetic attitude. His calm and confident attitude during his confrontation with Edward Newgate in the Summit War can be seen as an example of this—in which Borsalino allowed himself to ignore Newgate's presence in order to break the key to Ace's handcuffs that Luffy was holding—[24]; as well as his disinterestedly ignoring the threat of Benn Beckman and continuing to pursue the super rookies in their escape attempt.[23] Unfortunately for the World Government, Borsalino can be quite absent-minded and irresponsible. During his mission to Sabaody, he even completely destroyed one of the enormous Yarukiman Mangroves while trying to kill a pair of pirates (an overreaction his subordinates reproached him for, while he agreed with them and commented that he had gone a bit too far). After his arrival at the archipelago, he attempted to contact Sentomaru using a black den den mushi, which are only used for intercepting communications (something his own subordinate reproached him for).[25]

Borsalino often comments on how some of his opponents' abilities are quite "terrifying", calling the three Super Rookies with devil-like abilities he faced on Sabaody "monsters",[26] or noting how terrifying the Whitebeard Pirates were after Marco stopped their attack on Newgate early in the war.[27] When Luffy was thrown onto the execution platform by Jinbe and faced the three admirals, Borsalino commented on the young man's terrifying attitude.[20]

Personality

Borsalino is a man with a relaxed, absent-minded and carefree temperament, speaking at a very slow pace and often omitting the last word of his sentences (something that contrasts with the feeling of speed transmitted by the power of his Devil Fruit). [9] According to the author's own statements, the exact name of the ideological postulate that Borsalino follows is: "uncertain justice" (どっちつかずの正義, Dotchitsukazu no seigi?), [15] although it can also be called "confusing" or "unclear" justice: a justice that is not subject to immovable principles, nor to reason, but is determined by the personal, random and unpredictable choice of the one who practices it. Despite his reservations about harming those he was once close to, Kizaru has shown that he will ultimately take his missions and orders as his top priority, deciding after Kuma's arrival at Egghead to allow the situation at Egghead to come to an end and wasting no time in dispatching Franky when he attacked Jaygarcia Saturn and failed to cancel Saturn's declaration ordering a Buster Call despite Vegapunk's pleas to do so, telling the stationed vice admirals to go to the escape ships. This is further shown when he prevented Franky, Atlas, Kuma, and Bonney from escaping through the void rocket by cutting it open, even going so far as to attempt to kill Bonney and Kuma himself on the orders of the elders. [16] Kizaru even directly stabbed Vegapunk to kill him, further showing his dedication to the mission. [17] Borsalino shows a complete lack of mercy toward criminals. When Silvers Rayleigh interfered with his mission to Sabaody, Borsalino decided to capture the "Dark King" due to his ties to the Roger Pirates.

Appearance

Borsalino is a tall, thin man with dark skin, thick lips, short, curly black hair, a light beard, and a moderate number of wrinkles. As the oldest of the previous trio of admirals, he is more deeply reflected in his face. He wears round glasses with amber lenses and yellow frames.

In his debut, his attire consisted of a yellow suit with vertical stripes (horizontal, in the collar area), under a navy jacket over his shoulders with yellow cuffs. Under the suit, he wore a dark blue shirt (dark green, in the anime), with a mauve tie and white shoes with a yellow buckle. During his mission, in the Sabaody Archipelago, he wore a small black den den mushi on his left wrist.[9]

After the timeskip, Borsalino wears a suit with a similar design to the one he wore two years ago, but with some changes: the vertical lines running through it are now thinner and more frequent than before, and the verticality of the lines is also maintained in the neck area, where they were previously horizontal. He has also changed the design of his shirt, which is now a lighter color. In the anime, however, they have decided to keep the same design he wore before the timeskip.[10] Worthy of mention is his attire in One Piece Film: Z, where the new design of his suit is maintained, but his shirt and tie are replaced by a dark green turtleneck sweater.[11]

Twenty-seven years ago, he wore the standard Navy cap and a different design of his yellow pinstriped suit, with an open yellow shirt underneath. At this time, he did not wear his trademark glasses and his beard was even lighter.[12] Thirteen years before the beginning, he wore a light gray pinstriped suit, black shirt, light blue tie, and the standard vice admiral's jacket draped over his shoulders. On his head, he wore a stylish dark gray fedora.
