Raphael is the oldest brother and the one responsible for his brothers getting out of the missions alive, in fact being the one responsible for his brothers and also being the leader. Raphael and his brothers were patrolling, well really they were just doing funny silly things until they hear a loud bang. Raphael suggests that they all go together but Leonardo says it's better if they separate and although Raphael protests in the end they listen to Leonardo. Raphael reluctantly goes to investigate and sees a figure in the darkness on the roof of a building that is in the process of destruction.

―Raph's repeated phrase
Hamato Raphael, also known as Raph or (presumably) Red by Splinter, is an alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) who was mutated to become part-human by the mutant alchemist Baron Draxum, before being adopted along with three other turtles by a man named Hamato Yoshi. He is the older brother and member/former leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, making him the most responsible of his siblings, much to their surprise, especially Leonardo. He is one of the two main protagonists (along with his younger brother, Leo) of the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, serving as the main protagonist of the series and one of the two deuteragonists (along with Casey Jones) of the film. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION SPECIES Alligator snapping turtle (mutated with human DNA) GENDER Male EYE COLOR Black with yellow sclerae
physical appearance Rafael is presented as a large, fern-green-skinned, mutant freshwater turtle/yokai with alligator-like features. He is the tallest member of the Mad Dogs, due to his species being known for being the largest freshwater turtle in North America. Unlike his siblings, his physical appearance seems to lean more towards his aquatic turtle DNA than his human side.
Raph sports a large, somewhat worn, and bulky physique. His legs and arms are large and muscular, with three fingers on each hand and two on each foot. He sports a sizable, goldenrod-colored plastron with pointed upper edges that protrude outward. His carapace is a dark blue-black with a hint of green, with three dorsal ridges running across it. Matching spikes atop his shoulders follow, with a spike protruding from both elbows. His eyes are onyx, followed by a pair of pale yellow sclerae and teeth, with his prominent lopsided tooth in the upper right corner.
On his head is a bright cinnabar red durag-like bandana, with two ragged tails extending down the back. Along with matching compression cuffs on his elbows, shorts, and belt, the Turtle emblem is fastened directly across the center. Additionally, Raph's body sports a few bandages here and there. He sports white adhesive bandages on his plastron (shaped like an X), as well as his left forearm and right calf. Topped off with longer bandages around his wrists and ankles.
Extra Appearance When his Hamato Ninpō is unlocked, and since the film, his belt and shorts are black, and he wears matching fingerless gloves and knee-high socks. One of the white adhesive bandages remains on his breastplate, and after that, he is missing the others.
Personality
Raph is exuberant and passionate, known for his fearless attitude and impulsiveness. Fully aware of his self-proclaimed leadership, he always makes decisions—some with better outcomes than others—with positive intent and hope for the team. While Raph is not adept at ingenuity, as shown in "Stuck on You," he is skilled at quickly revising ineffective strategies, and his bold and assertive nature leads him to try a wide range of tactics, unorthodox or not.
Rafael tends to be impulsive and doesn't rationalize before making decisions that can have varying degrees of success. Rafael is the former leader, disregarding when his siblings come up with plans that differ from his own. Even after Leonardo is given the title of leader, he still feels the responsibility of being the oldest and the glue that holds the team together.
Raphael is a very kind and passionate person, often reluctant to say potentially unpleasant things to others. Due to his responsible nature, he can sometimes appear authoritarian with his brothers, ensuring they are not in danger, especially with Michelangelo, as he is the youngest of them.
Raph is imaginative, known for coming to absurd conclusions and assumptions about situations such as when he couldn't remember if the consequence of returning a DVD late was getting a fine or the Earth being invaded by zombies in "Late Fee".
Extra Personality Raph is unabashedly tender and kind, reticent to say potentially hurtful things, such as when he apologizes to Franken-Foot for making him feel unlovable in "Sparring Partner", but also has no qualms about poking fun at others. Often being the strongest and busiest in the room, it is easy for Raph to see vulnerability in others and thus feels a duty to use his strength to protect them. However, his protective nature can sometimes be seen as overbearing and overly worrying among his siblings. Raph is deliberately kind due to his immense strength and has a great deal of self-control in his physique when interacting with his loved ones, even when highly emotional.
Despite often being naive, Raph possesses his own natural wisdom and generally sees a lot of potential in the Mad Dogs. However, Raph can find it difficult to admit his mistakes, such as when he attempts to implement his own plan despite having agreed to let Donatello and Michelangelo do so in "One Man's Junk". He can also take credit for others' ideas, as seen in "Newsworthy", where he congratulates himself for using Donnie's plan, but has steadily improved in both aspects.
Raph is fair, often displays some responsibility, and has a desire to right his wrongs when it comes to something important or a loved one. He often reminds his brothers of the mission objectives and redirects their often-stray focus. While Raph is undeniably playful and fun-loving, he also possesses an unmatched maturity for his brothers and goes out of his way not to insult those who have not maliciously caused him trouble. He is able to straighten his brothers out and change their inappropriately lax attitudes when the moment calls for it, such as in "Insane on the Mama Train", when Raph acknowledges that, after participating in a prank competition, they should take some time to train.
Extra Personality Although Raph is quite caring, he does not extend his sympathy to everyone and can be distrustful of those who have wronged him in the past, as seen in his reluctance to help Warren Stone in "Warren & Hypno, Sitting in a Tree" and his difficulty trusting and insensitivity towards Baron Draxum in "Repairin' the Baron". He can become angered when others are ignorant or degrading towards the things he likes, such as in "The Longest Fight" when the Foot Brute asks Raph who Sydney Allen is or when Sergeant Woodpecker mocks Teddy Bear Town in "Mascot Melee", causing Raph to retaliate violently.
Raph harbors an intense aversion to solitude due to his closeness to his brothers. Being alone against his will can be so distressing that he becomes senseless and violent, quite contrary to his nature, and is indiscriminately hostile, even towards his family, as seen in "Man VS. Sewer". He and his brothers are well aware of this, so Raph tries to avoid isolation to prevent his "Wild Raph" state from surfacing.
Although he tries to be patient with his brothers, Raph becomes enraged when they consistently behave naively in potentially dangerous situations. In some cases, his outbursts are due to annoyance at things not going his way. Raph is also relatively easily overwhelmed, as seen when he attempts to silence his brothers' barrage of questions and comments after accidentally losing his money in "Pet Melee". It is revealed that Raph chokes under pressure and that drawing attention to it only makes him more self-conscious in "Mystical Chaos".
Extra personality Raph's relationship with his brothers is sometimes strained due to his status as the older brother. He tends to view them as little children in his care, which can lead to his attitude towards them being paternalistic or unintentionally condescending, as shown in "Pizza Puffs". In turn, his brothers often expect him to take on many responsibilities and solve problems that they themselves cannot be bothered to address, much to Raph's frustration. This creates a vicious cycle: Raph wants his brothers to be more responsible and reliable, while indirectly encouraging their attitudes through his fatherly behavior.
Powers and abilities
Powers
Hamato Ninpō: As a member of the Hamato Clan, Raphael has the ability to harness the energy of his clan to unleash his own mystical powers. Weapon Generation: Rafael can use common objects to form his own weapons, specifically sai. Self-Replication: Raph can create duplicates of himself to an unedifying extent, usually using them to confuse enemies as to who the real him is. Mystical Energy Manipulation: Raph wields a mystical energy-generating tonfa. It is often activated by striking the heads of his tonfas together, and he can use its energy in a variety of ways, both offensive and defensive. Force Field Constructs: Raph has the ability to construct force fields in the shape of his own body, capable of altering size. Power Smash Jutsu: The speed with which Raph can swing his energy fists increases, allowing him to strike with immense swiftness along with the innate magnified power of mystical energy. Tonfa Power Technique: Raph can create giant fists to attack and grapple his opponents, powerful enough to create craters in surfaces. He can control the number of fists he generates and their length, creating a construct that spans his entire arm or just his wrist. Mystic Fist Technique: By enveloping his natural fists in mystical energy, the force behind Raph's punches is significantly magnified. Power Fist Technique: Raph can create large fists from his mystical force field, capable of extending it great distances. Power Tickling Technique: After activating his tonfa, Raph can detach his energy fists from his own body and manipulate them as extra limbs.
Talent
Strategic Analysis: His previous position as a leader allowed him to develop tactical thinking. However, he sometimes struggles with planning and isn't a natural leader, which sometimes confuses his siblings. Mental Raph: By verbally asking himself a question, Raph can conjure up a mental image of himself to help him think things through. Ninjitsu: Rafael is skilled in ninjutsu, making him a competent foe to fight against. Stealth: Raph can enter and exit areas undetected. However, his foul odor can cause enemies to spot him. Speed: Raph is able to move quickly without being seen. Enhanced Strength: Raph possesses immense strength, greater than that of the average human, and even the other Mad Dogs. Agility: Despite his size, Raph is quite agile, allowing him to successfully dodge attacks and perform sharp turns and flips. Ninja Mind Meld: Raph is able to telepathically exchange strategies with Leo, increasing the team's coordination. Pheromone Generation: Raph involuntarily secretes various scents when stressed, which his family calls "stinks" as they are often unpleasant. Each stress-inducing situation has its own identifiable scent, such as the stench of fear, the stench of awe, the stench of victory, and the stench of stalking people. Durability: Due to his mutation, Raph is able to withstand greater levels of pain and physical trauma, even more extreme than his brothers.

Trivia
Unlike previous incarnations of the Turtles, this version of Raph is both the oldest Turtle and the leader of the team unlike Leo. If the lyrics of the song Turtle Power are to be believed, this is the second time Raph has been the leader of the Turtles. Raph's preferred weapon is the tonfa instead of his usual weapon, the sai, using them during the early events of "Mystic Mayhem" before breaking them. This version of Raph isn't the first to wield a tonfa. The earliest depiction of it, found in the 1986 Mirage Ninja Turtles story The Passing, which takes place when the Mirage Ninja Turtles are still pre-teens in ninja training, was the tonfa, rather than the sai he would later wield. In this iteration, Raph is an alligator snapping turtle, known in real life for not only being the largest turtle species, but also the largest freshwater turtle species in North America, hence his large build. In this version, Raph's physical profile is also similar to that of various incarnations of Slash, most versions of which are also snapping turtles. It also bears a resemblance to its incarnation in the 2014 film series. Raph couldn't hide in his shell because of his species.
One of Raph's catchphrases is "Like a boss." Raph regularly speaks in the third person. Raph tends to read books only halfway, as revealed in "The Mutant Menace". According to a behind-the-scenes video, the reason Raph is the leader of the Mad Dogs is because he's the oldest. Leo also sees Raph as a leader who "figures things out as he goes." Describing his leadership role on a live stream, Raph was described as a "reactionary-type leader." As Rise of the TMNT writer Russ Carney described it in a tweet: "Raph is all heart, all loyalty, all drive, but maybe not so strong with tactics?" Donnie reveals in "Pet Melee" that Raph is allergic to peanuts. Raph's surprised exclamation, "Jumpin' Jack Flash!", may be a reference to the Rolling Stones song of the same name or the 1986 film starring Whoopi Goldberg. A running gag is when Raph is on the phone with his brothers and speaks in a soft voice, not meant to be condescending. As mentioned in "Mind Meld", Raph apparently has a social media account that he posts on. Raph's favorite music genre is R&B. Despite Raph's affection for animals, they often fear or hate him, probably due to his gigantic figure. Raph wears a retention earpiece with his pajamas as seen in "Flushed, but Never Forgotten".
Raph claims he can fit his entire fist in his mouth in "Lair Games" and has won the "Mallow Mouth" event for five years in a row. As Donnie said in "Snow Day", Raph gets stuck in a pirate voice whenever he sees Jupiter Jim Sails the Seven Galaxies. Raph has a habit of impulsively pressing large red buttons as shown in "Cloak and Swaggart". According to Leo in "Mind Meld", Raph is "terrible at taking pictures." It's not uncommon for Raph to argue with himself. He's seen doing so several times throughout the series, such as in "Pizza Puffs." In "Cloak and Swaggart", Raph confesses that he is "tank-phobic".
