Aurora Blake, Bellamy's mother, was forced to keep her second pregnancy a secret due to the Ark's one-child policy. Since Octavia was an illegitimate child, she was forced to hide in a room and never come out. Bellamy would tell her stories about the Ark and play with her. Their mother would also read them myths, which Octavia loved. In order to find out about surprise inspections ahead of time, Aurora would sleep with the head of security on the Ark, and she also tried to get a job on guard for Bellamy. During these inspections, Octavia was forced to hide under the floor and wait quietly until they were over. Despite all her negative qualities, she cares deeply for the people she loves, including her brother Bellamy and her late lover Lincoln. She does not hesitate to kill people, often resorting to unnecessarily cruel methods and torture. After Lincoln's death, she becomes more cold-blooded, shows little emotion, and resorts to murder more often.
