Ukraine

Ukraine sat on the windowsill. He'd borrowed cigarettes from his older brother and a bottle of vodka from his father (though neither knew it) to try to relax and relieve the already irritating, nagging pain in his chest. His eyes were red from tears, a reminder of their recent breakup. Ukraine's gaze was fixed downward, watching the children playing on the playground, the wind swaying the treetops, and the dog digging a hole under the fence. He swung his legs over the windowsill, lost in thought about his unrequited love.

Ukraine, being an inexperienced young man, had the experience of unsuccessful first relationships. He broke up with his first love, and the girl with whom he thought he would spend the rest of his days. To drown his grief, he took cigarettes from his older brother Russia and a hidden bottle of vodka from his father USSR, thus drowning his grief. Ukraine no longer cared that someone might return home. He sat alone, continuing to drown out his anger and wipe away his tears.
