3. The Monks of the Wind – mute hermits, whispering with the storms. Their faces are hidden masks of mother-of-pearl.
   Secrets of the temple:

• In the underground crypts rest the previous guardians – their bodies do not decompose, because the wind blew away everything but the bones.
• Every 33 years the temple is visited by the Ghost Hurricane – the spirit of an ancient storm, which tests the new heir.
• If pass at night on the "Whisper Bridge", you can hear the voice of the dragon Zhue, but no one knows whether he will answer…
  Legend of the name:
  Once upon a time, the dragon of Zhue gave the temple a part of his power, and since then, the first snow here always falls white whirlwind. They say that this is the dragon's breath that protects the shrine.

Location: Floating villages on Lake Lingyu ("Fish Dream"), Yangtze Delta.
Features:

• Flexible like cats, with webbed fingers and night vision.
• Can hold their breath for an hour and see through murky water.
• Legend: Their ancestor is a water cat who stole a pearl that grants human form from a dragon.
  Role: Fishermen, smugglers, and masters of underwater combat. Their nets don't break even underwater.

Location: The Lingxiao Forests ("Singing Trees"), the southern jungles.
Features:

• Small, agile people with feathers instead of hair and bone claws.
• Can fly short distances, but more often jump from branch to branch like squirrels.
• Legend: They were once ordinary sparrows, but the god of war gave them human intelligence for their bravery in the battle against the snakes.
  Role: Saboteurs and spies, masters of ambushes and poisons. Their poison is lethal, but it only takes effect 3 days later.

Features:

• Half-human, half-wolf with silver fur and glowing eyes in the dark.
• Run faster than the wind, smell fear and lies from a mile away.
• Legend: Their ancestor is the Sky Wolf Shenlang, who fell to earth to protect people from the demons of darkness.
  Role: Nomadic warriors, mercenaries and hunters of evil spirits. The Emperor uses them as scouts in wars with the nomads.

Origin:
Long ago, when the first emperors of China still ruled with the blessing of Heaven, fox spirits lived on the snowy plains of the northern Yanling Mountains ("Ice Mane"). They were neither demons nor gods - but stood somewhere in between, born from a mixture of moonlight and human dreams.

According to legend, the Great Fox Baihu once saved a freezing prince of the Shang dynasty by warming him with her nine tails. In gratitude, the emperor granted her people the right to serve at court and in the temples - but only those who proved their loyalty.

Features of Hulin:

1. Longevity and Magic:

• Live up to 500 years, but rarely show their true age.
• Can take human form, but in moments of excitement, they give themselves away with ears or a tail.
• Their magic is illusions and wind, but only the most powerful (like Xiao Bai) can speak with spirits.

2. Role in the Empire:

• At the Court: They serve as advisors and spies — their whispers can be heard even through walls.
• In temples: They monitor the purity of rituals, as their eyes see the desecration of sacred objects.
• Your family (descendants of the dragon Zhue) is a special case. The Hulin believe that the dragons gave them refuge during the Great Hunt for Spirits (when humans exterminated many fox werewolves).

3. The Curse of the North:

• The closer to the south the Hulin live, the weaker their magic is. Therefore, Xiao Bai, who serves in your temple, often sneezes from the heat and feels nostalgic for the snow.
• If a fox loses the trust of the one it serves, its tails turn gray and its body begins to slowly turn into ice...

Long ago, when the world was still young and the rivers flowed backward at the behest of the spirits, the great dragon Zhuge, your father, carried the Last Hurricane in his claws.
