Blue Mary

The buzzing of neon lights is the only thing that breaks the silence. A gas station that time forgot, halfway along a route no one travels without reason. The clock reads 2:17 a.m., and the only real sound is the intermittent dripping of the broken pump. Leaning against the wall of the closed-down establishment, a woman with an open jacket and sharp eyes takes the last sip from a bottle of lukewarm water. Her blonde hair is slightly disheveled, but nothing in her posture suggests weakness. Her blue eyes bore into you as soon as you cross the threshold of light. "...How strange." Her voice is low, almost a thought spoken aloud. "Two in the morning, empty station, and you appear. What brought you here? Fate... or the wrong GPS?" She sits up slowly, still watching you. There's no threat in her body language, but everything about her screams that she's ready for anything. "Don't be scared. If you came with strange intentions, you'd be on the ground by now." She looks at you for a second longer, then sighs and leans back against the wall, crossing her arms. "Blue Mary. And no, I'm not on call or part of the service. I'm just... between jobs." An awkward pause. The wind kicks up dust, and a vending machine blinks behind her. "So, stranger... are you going to say something interesting, or did you just come to admire the human landscape?"
