Terrible Terror miscellaneous

Class: Stoker Size: Small: 5 feet 11 inches (1.81 meters) long, 1 foot 5 inches (0.43 meters) tall Weight: 20 lbs (9.09 kg) Wingspan: 6 feet 2 inches (1.89 meters) Diet: Fish, Bread, Chicken Habitat: Nearly all land habitats known Subspecies: Garden Dragon, Ice Terror

Terrible Terror Weaknesses

Pack Dependency Although Terrible Terrors are strong in packs, lone Terrors are actually very weak and, as shown by Toothless in the first movie, can be defeated by one fire blast. They also try to pick fights with dragons a lot bigger than themselves, and this often doesn't end very well.

Light Attraction Similar to Night Furies and Screaming Death, Terrible Terrors can be easily distracted by light reflected from something shiny, as shown by Hiccup during the dragon-killing session, where he distracted a Terrible Terror that attacked Tuffnut and made it chase the light back into its cage.

Terrible Terror Abilities

Terrors have a very strong and accurate fire attack. One could even argue they are the snipers of the Dragon World. It is said to have the best accuracy for fire bolts compared to most dragons, but it's unknown how good compared to the Night Fury. Strength and Combat Jaw Strength Speed, Agility, and Stealth Singing It has been revealed that Terrible Terrors have the ability to "sing". The Dragonpedia mentioned that flocks of Terrors often keep the residents of Berk awake with their chirps, squawks, and growls. They often sing when they gather in large groups. Endurance and Stamina Intelligence Resistance to Low Temperatures Air Mail Delivery Dragon Riders trained Terrible Terrors to send messages to the others by its kind that returns to their territory.

Terrible Terror Behavior

Terrible Terrors are shown to be very mischievous, as they like to play with Vikings and other dragons. They often travel in packs and they can be quite aggressive and over-ambitious. They tend to pick a fight with larger animals, though they mostly get defeated. Terrible Terrors are also very curious creatures and they can be found in unexpected places. They will eat just about anything they can digest, therefore can be found in any environment in the archipelago.

In the first movie, and in Book of Dragons, Terrible Terrors were shown to lick their eyes, not unlike some species of geckos, despite the fact that they have eyelids. Furthermore, in a scene where Terrible Terrors were fighting over a fish, one bobs up and down in a similar manner to how real life geckos fight in order to intimidate one another.

Terrible Terrors like to make a lot noise, with some specimens being able to "sing". They are also shown to behave like hawks, as they stand on people's arms and can be used to send messages between islands.

Among many other things Terrible Terrors like to get into, paper is one of their favorites. According to School of Dragons, Terrible Terrors like paper and often destroy books, in this case, the School of Dragons History Book.

Terrible Terror Appearance

Egg Terrible Terror eggs have been described to be as small as seeds in How to Train Your Dragon promotional material to being depicted as slightly larger than an adult chicken in "Animal House". In this Dragons: Riders of Berk episode, the Terror egg appears off-white, grey, or light green, with grey, brown, or dark green speckles. Its overall shape is that of a chicken egg.

In Dragons: Rise of Berk, Terrible Terror eggs are usually light green, though its color depends on that of the dragon inside, and is speckled with smaller spots. The egg can be called round but the shape of it is a little jagged and the roundness is not as smooth as other dragon eggs.

Terror eggs are shown to explode just like Gronckle eggs at hatching, in "Animal House", flinging what appear to be molten hot shards everywhere.

Hatchling to Adult The Terrible Terror resembles a Common or Garden Dragon in appearance. It has an iguana-like body, two pairs of horns, one pair of wings, and a tail with a barbed tip. It comes in various colors, with green being the most common. Others are red, orange, blue, yellow and purple. Its large yellow eyes and small size make it one of the most remarkable species of dragons.

Gronckle Weaknesses

Loud Sounds If one clatters metallic objects together near a Gronckle, it can momentarily disorient it and even obscure its vision. This also includes loud screeches from other dragons like the Screaming Death or the Sentinels, but this could be said for most dragons.

Sensitive Spot Like Deadly Nadders and other dragons, the Gronckle has a specific spot that, when scratched, will cause the dragon to instantly calm down. Gobber found out from being a dragon doctor that these dragons' have a sensitive spot under their belly where, when tickled by a single feather, can induce vomiting of lava.

Allergies Gronckles appear to be prone to allergies, whether seasonal or environmental. These manifest as respiratory symptoms such as sneezing. Sneezing in a dragon can involve snorting out fire or lava. Fishlegs indicates that Meatlug has allergies as early as "How to Pick Your Dragon". Yawnckle also has allergies to flowers.

Overeating Eating too many rocks can make Gronckles overheat and also cause stomach upset, some of which can cause discomfort/pain or inability to produce lava blasts. Their fire is also dependent on the type of rocks consumed, ranging from those that give them uncontrollable magnetic forces to causing them to spit out glass. According to Fishlegs, different Gronckles react differently to different types of rock: limestone might be one Gronckle's favorite treat, but might cause another to get an awful stomachache. They can also choke on certain rocks, especially quartzite, even as adults.

Slow Speed Gronckles are one of the slowest and laziest dragons, making it easy for them to get left behind by other dragons. Much like Hotburples, they may also fall from the sky after falling asleep in mid flight. However, Meatlug has been shown to travel very long distances, yet either ended up being more exhausted than the other dragons or, at times, even flew in her sleep.

Weak Vision Improper Food Diet

Gronckle Abilities

Most dragons use a flammable gas, but the Gronckle eats rocks and then melts them in its stomach. So as long as there are edible rocks in the area, the Gronckles will be one of the few dragons to be able to refill their shot limit. The Gronckle's lava depends on the type of rocks they eat. They are able to produce regular flaming hot lava, lava coated rocks, Gronckle Iron, glass, and lava of different colors. Jaw Strength and Expansion Strength and Combat Gronckle Iron Creation One interesting fact about a Gronckle's stomach is that it is able to melt down any type of rock and metal like a forge. By mixing certain minerals and ores, it is able to create an alloy called Gronckle Iron, which can be shaped into weapons and instruments that are lighter and stronger than those made of pure iron. Dragon Root Immunity Gronckles are one of the few known dragons that are immune to Dragon Root, possibly because of their mineral-based diet. Gronckles are also immune to Dragon Root lanced arrows. Speed and Agility Interestingly enough, Gronckles are much faster on the ground than in the air Durability and Stamina Intelligence Senses Curling Up Gronckles can curl themselves up into a ball and roll themselves around for faster movement. Resistance to High Temperatures

Gronckle Behavior

Gronckles are usually very friendly unless something angers or threatens them, and are said to be sociable to most dragons and animals. They often enjoy physical contact and nap in "communal heaps" with other Gronckles.

As mentioned before, Gronckles are lazy and sometimes cranky dragons. They fly slowly due to their small wings and bulky bodies, but their fire attacks are devastating. They can be sweet-natured and motherly at times, especially towards their hatchlings or their riders. Gronckles can be extremely deadly, considering that they can shoot molten lava. But if you befriend a Gronckle (which is pretty easy), they will love you forever and are very protective over their owners. They like to spend time with their owners, and are very playful.

Gronckles have a bit of a dog-like personality as they apparently love to play catch. They love to get their belly rubbed, but according to Fishlegs, they don't like to get their chins rubbed. Also, they can whine like dogs when upset.

Gronckles are said to be territorial like some other dragons, as proven by a wild Gronckle that was fighting Toothless. As Fishlegs stated, Gronckles can be tenacious dragons if needed.

According to the description for Rubblegrubber, "few Gronckles ... [have] the ability to purr. ... the Gronckle's purring sound is produced by gravel in its gizzard rubbing together. It is a gritty purr, but if you hear it, you know you're loved." This appears to be a learned behavior to show affection by manipulating their gastrointestinal organs.

In Dragons: The Nine Realms, Gronckles are seen preying on Catastrophic Quaken eggs. Three Gronckles are shown going on a feeding frenzy when fed the Quaken eggs. They even fight one another over the last remaining egg. They will even chase after anyone, human or dragon, that carries a Quaken egg, which can be used to lure the Gronckles someplace else.

Gronckle Appearance

The Gronckle can be a slow, lazy, and cranky bulldog-like dragon, It has been known to fall asleep mid-flight, waking only when it plunges into the sea or crashes into a mountain. They spend the majority of the day sleeping. However, during battle, they can be fierce adversaries because of their high defenses.

Because of its tremendous weight and small wings, it would seem impossible for them to fly. However, because the wings of a Gronckle beat at a speed similar to those of hummingbirds, dragonflies, or bees, it is possible for one to sustain flight. In fact, a Gronckle can fly backwards, sideways, and even hover in place. However, due to their massive weight and small wings they are the slowest species in the dragon world, which is not helped by their extreme tendencies towards laziness and falling asleep whilst flying. Despite this, they can still perform some pretty impressive flight maneuvers when trained to do so. Its tail can be mistaken for the head if little attention is paid to it.

Because of its large stout body and clubbed tail, the Gronckle somewhat resembles an Ankylosaurus. It has huge jaws which can be used to hold food. It has a rather blunt nose horn and fairly stubby toe claws. Its legs are practically useless in battle, and due to its short tail it has a fairly small attack range.

In the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular, Gronckles appear to have a similar body structure as the animated version. However they have much more bulk in their torso and a diminished tail size. This is probably due to design requirements for making real life puppets and robots. The live action Gronckles also have an exit orifice at the very end of their tail which is able to spew out debris and flatulence. Egg Gronckle eggs are the smallest of all the species. Some are a bluish color, while others are goldish, some even purple, and have a rocky appearance. They also bounce around like jumping beans. They are shown to explode when they hatch.

Deadly Nadder Weaknesses

Blind Spot Deadly Nadders have a blind spot right in front of their nose, as they do not possess binocular vision. By staying in its blind-spot, most trainers, or hunters, can carefully evade this dragon's gaze. Vulnerable Areas As discovered by the Dragon Hunters, when Nadders shoot their spines, their belly is always exposed, making it an easy target for Dragon Hunters, or other hostile dragons. Ryker Grimborn used this against Nadders to shoot them down. In addition, Nadders have a special weak spot under their chin, which when scratched, is extremely comfortable. Like a stereotypical comic-relief reaction of dogs being scratched, Nadder's eyeballs roll up, they gape their mouths open in comfort and their spikes preen downwards. When stroked correctly, some Nadders may collapse momentarily.

Like most other dragons, Nadders also have a pressure point on the neck, which disables the dragon.

Food Motivation Trained Deadly Nadders are easily bribed with chicken. When this manipulation is used, the dragon could potentially fall under the influence of others, be it good or bad.

Deadly Nadder Abilities

Before Fireworms were discovered, Nadders had the hottest fire of all dragon species and still have one of the hottest. The Deadly Nadder firepower is known as a magnesium blast. It's been said that the Nadder's fire is hot enough to melt metal and turn Vikings into ash. Stormfly also has been seen melting solid rocks within seconds and is able to use a type of fire similar to a Razorwhip. Stormfly has been witnessed shooting an intense, blinding white fire that appears to be even hotter than the normal Nadder fire. Some Deadly Nadders have also been seen shooting green fire. Combined with a Gronckle's lava blast, the Deadly Nadder's magnesium blast can destroy dragon-proof chains. Spine Shot The Deadly Nadder also has at its disposal a tail that is covered in bristling deadly venomous spikes, which are used as projectiles to stun or immobilize its prey. Its tail spikes are its preferred weapon (probably due to the aforementioned blind spot). It can launch its tail spikes with devastating speed and accuracy. Venomous spikes Speed and Agility Prehensile Tail Senses Strength and Combat Endurance and Stamina

Deadly Nadder Behavior

The Deadly Nadder is one of the most beautiful dragons, and unfortunately, it knows it. It is well-known for its vanity; it constantly grooms itself to stay clean and maintain the luster of its scales. Nadders also eat a significant amount of fish and even graze on plants, as seen in the episode, "Crushing It". However, when it is trained, it becomes very affectionate. These dragons also love to play fetch.

Deadly Nadders are intelligent, but tend to also be flighty - anxious, especially when in the wild. Nadders are so intelligent that some wild populations like the Nimble Nadder have even learned how to use tools and teach tool use to their young.

Despite being vain and skittish, female Nadders have shown strong mothering behavior, so strong that many individuals have even tended to babies not of their own species. This behavior has been demonstrated in Stormfly as well as Fireshrike. It is even shown in Rise of Berk that they will adopt even the eggs of hostile species, such as Changewings. Nadders can also be extremely aggressive and protective if someone should mess with their nest and steal their Dragonsite, which they use to make said nest.

Springshedder provides some evidence that Deadly Nadders shed scales at least once a year during the Spring when the weather starts to warm up.

Deadly Nadder Appearance

In appearance, the Deadly Nadder is very beautiful and bird-like: it is bipedal, possesses winged forelimbs, and is about the same size as medium-sized theropod dinosaurs, such as Allosaurus. Its small yet keen eyes, equipped with poor binocular vision, are one of the tools it uses to stalk its targets.

Its body is vividly colored, with a light beige underbelly, while its wings are mottled, darker shades. In front of its eyes is its curved nasal horn, which is often used to batter opponents; its lower jaw is shorter and wider than its upper, giving it an overbite. Ringing its skull is a crown of spikes. Coating the tail is a series of poisonous spines which can be fired at an opponent with deadly accuracy. When relaxed, its head spikes and venomous tail spines lay flat, but when alarmed, they shoot upward to intimidate its foe. The tail spikes can also be used to make a rattling noise which it makes right before it attacks, similar to a rattlesnake's.

The live models and puppets used in How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular are also brightly colored and detailed. There are fewer spikes on the tail, and — presumably due to difficulty with technical aspects — the spikes do not raise or lower or shoot out. The live models definitely resemble the body type of bipedal dinosaurs. A body suit of a "fledgling" Nadder was also created. This "fledgling" is not about to fly and has a reduced wing size. The nasal horn of female Deadly Nadders are longer and more curved than those of males, whose horns are short and straight. The males are also larger in body size. Female Nadders also have a slight overbite that resembles a beak, while male Nadders have complete underbites and more robust jaws. Egg Nadder eggs have sharp spikes that deter predators.

Monstrous Nightmare miscellaneous

Class: Stoker Size: Large: 64 feet 1 inch (19.53 meters), 15 feet 10 inches (4.85 meters) tall Weight: 5,040 lbs (2290.91 kg) Wingspan: 72 feet (21.94 meters) Diet: Apple, Corn, Crab, Fish, Mutton, Rat, Wild Boar, Yak Habitat: Forests, Caves Individuals: Hookfang Fanghook Monstrous Nightmare that Bork met in Book of Dragons Hookfang's Mate Hookfang's Offspring Astrid's Monstrous Nightmare in "Heather Report, Part 2" A Monstrous Nightmare that helped Hiccup, Snotlout, and Toothless in "Defiant One" Hookfire Fangmaster Hookblazefang Girl Hookfang Hookfang's Nemesis Sven's Nightmare Cagecruncher Firescrapes Whip-Slash Viggo's Monstrous Nightmare in "Triple Cross" Valka's Mercy Exiled Monstrous Nightmare Brisket, Saddle, Chuck, Rump, Loin, Scrag, Cutlet, Ham Hock, Sausages, Offal, Knuckle, and Pot Roast Liberated Whip-Wreck Cawmour Flick Blazewing Nidhogg Merciful Nightmare Mountain Nightmare Blazing Phoenixfire Charsoul Burlystorm Munchauser Baldreng Nightmare Tyrant Hybrids: Abomibumble, Slumberjack

Monstrous Nightmare Weaknesses

Flame Loss The primary vulnerability of this dragon species lies in the loss of their fire burst, which serves as a protective mechanism against hypothermia. Deprivation of this ability can potentially result in fatality. As per Fishlegs' observations, the fire burst can be lost due to factors such as advanced age, extreme fatigue, or physical injury. Indications of this condition include the development of flaky skin, pale coloration, a decrease in altitude during flight, and the inability to generate illumination. One can also tie up or clamp their snout so they're unable to use their Fire Burst. Large Size While the Monstrous Nightmare's large size is a strength, it can also be used against them. Due to a Monstrous Nightmare's long tail, they can't pull up in time when charging in a full speed dive. They are very fast when running in straight line but bad at making turns as stated by Ruffnut in "The Night and the Fury".

Also, Titan Wing Monstrous Nightmares are unable to maneuver as quickly as younger ones and have difficulty making sharp turns while in flight due to their size. It is also shown in "Snotlout Gets the Axe" that, like other dragons, if a Monstrous Nightmare's tail is compromised like being pinned to the ground then they will immediately crash and cause whoever is on them to fly and land on the ground.

Monstrous Nightmare Abilities

Monstrous Nightmares exhale an organic kerosene gel, which possesses a higher temperature and greater potency compared to a typical flame. Their fire exhibits sufficient heat to rapidly incinerate a tree within a matter of seconds. Kerosene Saliva According to the Dragonpedia, like many species, baby Monstrous Nightmares exhibit excessive drooling, which is attributed to the presence of kerosene gel in their saliva. This gel coats their scales and possesses highly volatile properties, contributing to the fire-jacket abilities of the Monstrous Nightmares. Once the gel is completely dried, it becomes highly resistant to heat and can be utilized as a fireproof adhesive. Senses Strength and Combat Speed and Agility Climbing Intelligence Wing Blast They use their large, powerful wings to create a blast of wind that is so strong, it can even blow a fully-grown Hideous Zippleback to the ground. Endurance and Stamina Jaw Expansion and Jaw Strength

Monstrous Nightmare Behavior

The Monstrous Nightmare exhibits a naturally fearless and proud disposition. They possess exceptional strength, placing them among the most powerful dragons. They are well aware of their own capabilities and exude confidence. Monstrous Nightmares display a high level of aggression, particularly during combat. They are reputed to be the first to engage in battle and the last to withdraw. Monstrous Nightmares, known for their fiery disposition and impulsive nature, tend to prioritize incinerating their surroundings before considering alternative actions. the Monstrous Nightmare experiences pleasure when its horns are pressed against the ground, and Astrid successfully managed to tame one by employing this technique. Tuffnut mentioned that the ground felt soft when he was pinned down by his sister, suggesting that the ground's texture might play a role in this process, potentially requiring it to be soft and comfortable. Subsequently, this dragon reappeared and came to Astrid's rescue. Despite their name, Monstrous Nightmares are known to have a softer side. they love the smell of scented flowers. Hookfang at least is known to be fond of eating rats so it is possible that all Monstrous Nightmares like eating rats. At several points of Dragons: Riders of Berk, Hookfang occasionally dozed off or was distracted by leaf, chasing a seagull, or anything else, sometimes they don't even notice that an object as big as a rider falling off them. Being a hot-headed, feisty dragon, they will attack anyone in its way if spooked. Every time Monstrous Nightmares attempt to fight off Toothless, they are blinded by their aggressiveness that Night Furies are a far bigger threat than they think. In the case of female Monstrous Nightmares, they possess the ability to summon males of their species, even if they are not their mates.

Monstrous Nightmare Appearance

Egg The Monstrous Nightmare eggs have a surface that looks like they were made of cloth or leather folded together, with a spotted pattern on the base. Its colors vary and they match the colors of the dragon to be born. In School of Dragons, however, they are brown and smooth with a pattern similar to tree bark. Hatchling to Adult Monstrous Nightmares come in many different colors such as purple, blue, scarlet, or green and possess a long, snakelike neck and tail. Unlike some other breeds of dragon, it has no forelegs, and its ground-based locomotion is similar to that of Pterosaurs, except that it has a lower profile due to its sprawled wings; it can use its claw-tipped wings to "crawl" along the floor. Their horns might be used as a visual display and in defense, but the swept back position of the horns means it is unlikely to use them in combat. In most pieces of media, this dragon possesses two rows of spikes on it's back, but in Rise of Berk the spikes are replaced by two sails. Its stripe skin patterns seem to mimic that of a tiger's. Find more information on this here. The Monstrous Nightmare is 60 feet long, has a wingspan of 68 feet and weighs about 5,000 lbs. It can be noted that male Nightmares are larger than females with longer wing spikes and horns when comparing Hookfang to Girl Hookfang.

Night Fury miscellaneous

Class: Strike Size: Medium: 28 feet 8 inches (8.74 meters) 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 meters) tall Weight: 1,776 lbs (805.6 kg) Wingspan: 50 feet 3 inches (15.33 meters) Diet: Beef, Crab, Fish, Honeycomb, Apple Habitat: Unknown

Night Fury Weaknesses

Dragon Root A Dragon Root arrow could render Night Furies weak and vulnerable for a prolonged period of time, while other dragons can recover faster, as seen in "Enemy of My Enemy".

Strong Winds The Night Furies' large wings make them vulnerable to intense/powerful sheering winds if they were to attempt a prolonged hover in such conditions like a small Sea Stack or rock formations off the coast of Berk, as stated by Fishlegs in "Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man". Sensitive Spot Similar to Gronckles and Deadly Nadders, Night Furies, when scratched around their neck and chin will be easily calmed and scratching a specific spot under its chin can even make its eyes roll back and cause the dragon to collapse. Tail Fin Dependency The Night Furies' dual tail fins on their tails allow them to remain stabilized in flight. If one is damaged or missing, they will be unable to fly. As stated above their tails are one of the main sources of their flying ability, and altering the tail can change its abilities. Cold Temperatures According to Grimmel, Night Furies are unable to survive in consistently cold environments like tundras, snowy mountains, or arctic islands. This means that unlike most dragons, Night Furies cannot live in frigid conditions, icy cold water, and even cannot endure low temperatures, even lower ones. It is shown in the second film that if Toothless wasn't saved by Sailback and Valka's Seashockers, from the icy cold water, he would’ve likely died due to his flightlessness. Flying Long Distances According to Grimmel, Night Furies are also unable to fly for long distances without resting. When traveling they need to take breaks in some islands before they can continue on. When Night Furies are tired/sleepy, they are easy prey to catch or hunt down. Dive Bombing in Confined Areas Even though dive bombing is the Night Furies greatest strength, it has one major weakness: it can't be done in confined or small areas when in flight such as in tunnels or caves

Night Fury Abilities

The Night Fury can shoot bursts of purple-colored flames, composed of ionized oxyacetylene. Plasma blasts explode directly upon impact, sometimes exploding in mid-air at higher altitudes because of the cut off oxygen supply. Flame Jacket Toothless demonstrates the ability to set himself alight with blue flames, similar to a Monstrous Nightmare. Dive-bombing Strength and Combat Tail Whipping Wing Shield Accuracy Night Furies have pin-point accuracy, so they hardly ever miss. Even when disoriented by the Screaming Death’s scream, Toothless was still able to hit the Screaming Death in the head with a plasma blast. Stealth The Night Fury's jet-black color and dark scales make it blend perfectly at night, dark areas, and dark clouds. The only warnings that it gives is the sound of the dive-bombing with a loaded blast, right before it attacks with a powerful plasma blast, as well as the stars disappearing behind it. Cloaking Much like Light Furies, Night Furies are capable of cloaking. This allows them to blend into their surroundings. Speed and Agility Claws Acute Senses Stamina and Endurance Intelligence and Mimicry Echolocation Jaw Strength

Night Fury Behavior

According to the Dragon Manual, the Night Fury is so mysterious and feared that it earned the title "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself." Known for their aggression toward any perceived threat, Night Furies once treated humans the same way many wild dragons treated the Vikings of Berk—with hostility and caution.

Due to their extreme rarity, Night Furies are enigmatic by nature. When Hiccup first encountered Toothless, the dragon appeared aloof and distrusting. He avoided contact and showed no interest in interacting with the boy, instead trying to escape multiple times. In fact, Hiccup remarked early on that a Night Fury “never steals food, never shows itself, and never misses.” These dragons are solitary, not prone to stealing or aligning with an Alpha, and they remain hidden unless provoked.

Despite their guarded nature, Night Furies are highly curious and intelligent. Once they warm up to someone, their behavior shifts dramatically. They begin investigating their surroundings, observing new things with fascination, and sometimes even attempting to replicate actions they’ve seen. They are known to be playful—sometimes fixated on small objects like sparks—and tend to be more social around other dragons, despite preferring solitude with humans. They are brave and not easily intimidated, capable of facing down threats when needed.

Communication is another of their standout traits. Night Furies seem to understand human speech and respond appropriately. For example, Toothless grunted in agreement when Hiccup talked about the Red Death flying and obeyed commands not to harm Astrid or Stoick. They can grasp the meaning behind tone and expression, and respond both vocally and through behavior. This understanding plays into their fierce loyalty; once a bond is formed, a Night Fury will protect their companion with unwavering dedication.

Emotionally, Night Furies are expressive and easy to read once you learn their cues.

Night Fury Appearance

Egg Night Fury eggs are oblong, almost similar to that of a chicken egg, and are smooth. To blend in with the night sky, they are jet black albeit with lighter blemishes.

In Dragons: Rise of Berk, a Night Fury egg is rounder, with a scale-like pattern covering it in its entirety. While black, it has a slight shine that makes the egg look grey in color.

Hatchling to Adult The Night Fury is one of the fastest, smartest, and rarest of the known species of dragons. It is medium-sized and has a sleek, dark body with black scales. It also has faint lighter patterns similar to that of a manta ray.

The Night Fury somewhat resembles an axolotl, gecko, and black panther in general appearance and has one pair of wings with a shape similar to a bat; two pairs of tail-fins, one at the base of the tail and the other at the tip, used for control in flight; four mobile, ear-like appendages on the back of its head that show its mood and help it hear; as well as other small tendril-like appendages around their jaw depending on their age. Night Furies have a pair of large, yellowish-green, cat-like eyes and sharp retractable teeth. Unlike most dragon species, the Night Fury lacks any kind of horns, only having flaps and aerodynamic fin-like appendages. The tip of the snout is also prominent, resembling the rhinarium of a mammal. The dragon is 26 feet in length and has a 45-foot wingspan on average, 5 feet 9 inches at the shoulder, and weighs 1,776 pounds.

The Night Fury’s aerodynamic jet-like wings and sleek body allow it to fly at supersonic speeds, faster than any other dragon apart from the Light Fury. It uses the fins on its tail to help steer and maneuver, similar to an airplane rudder. However, a Night Fury will be incapable of flying if one of these fins is missing or destroyed, which shows that they are also used for ballast in flight. It is capable of taking flight from a standing start like a pigeon.
