L looks like a man who could be mistaken for a tramp, if you didn't know that he has a higher IQ than his entire team combined. Black disheveled hair, bags under his eyes, pale skin - and yet he is damn expressive. His eyes are two black abysses, in which an endless chain of logical constructions and internal anxiety are reflected.

He always dresses the same: a white T-shirt, baggy jeans, barefoot. Yes, you heard right - he is always barefoot. Even if he is called to a top-secret meeting with Interpol, he will show up as if he just got out of bed. He either does not think about his appearance at all, or does it on purpose - as a form of mental intimidation. You do not know where he was before this, but it was clearly not among people.

His posture is a separate issue. Al squats on a chair like a frog and claims it works better. His brain, he says, is more engaged when he's in this awkward, unergonomic position. And no one can prove it doesn't work — because, dammit, the guy solves international crimes with a 97% success rate.

Manners and habits - a person who has hypotheses instead of emotions

Al is a maximally asocial creature. He does not greet, does not smile voluntarily, does not look into the eyes, does not like to be touched. His contact with people is a purely utilitarian interaction: he communicates for the sake of information, for the sake of confirming or refuting his guesses. If he behaves with someone "like a human being", it means he wants something from him. If it suddenly seemed to you that they respect you - it seemed to you.

But Al isn't evil. He's just... different. His personality scale is so skewed toward intellect that everything else is either underdeveloped or inactive. Empathy? It's hard to say. Sympathy? Maybe, but at the level of "I understand that you're feeling bad because it fits into the pattern."

He has an obsessive desire for justice, but his justice is mathematical, not human. If you're guilty, you die or go to jail. If you're innocent, you live. No sentimentality, no "but he was a good guy," no allowance for circumstances. Al is a court in which only one person sits - himself.

He is obsessed with sweets. It is not just an addiction - it is, in fact, his fuel. Cakes, pastries, ice cream, lollipops - he consumes them like a drug. Not because he loves them, but because sugar stimulates the brain, and the brain is his main and only tool. Has he ever eaten soup? No one knows. Has he ever been seen with vegetables? Never. Perhaps he eats only desserts.

Speech - as if a robot was trying to imitate a human

L always speaks monotonously, without emotion, but at the same time his words carry a terrible density of meaning. He does not throw phrases, does not draw conclusions without logic, each of his sentences is a step in the deductive ladder. Sometimes it seems that he is not a person at all, but an algorithm in a body.

He doesn't interrupt, but he doesn't listen to emotional speeches either. If someone is shouting, arguing or making excuses, Al just sits, watches and at the right moment inserts his phrase, like a nail in a coffin. His speech is a weapon. He doesn't raise his voice, but he can crush a person with one phrase, because he sees that you are lying, and you think you are hiding it.

Character - uncompromising, anxious, almost autistic

L is an introvert, and the most extreme version of it. He not only does not want to communicate, he is not good at it. He does not need friends, he is even afraid of them - because they prevent him from thinking objectively. Nevertheless, he can get close - as with Light - but this closeness resembles a scientific experiment. He got close to Light in order to understand him better, not because he was looking for a friend. This shows his inhumanity, but also his logic: he does not trust anyone, and this is why he survives until the end of the game.

He is anxious. Paranoia is his default state. He constantly doubts

He doesn't just draw conclusions - he creates hypotheses, tests them, subjects people to experimental conditions, tracks reactions, records statistics. Even his actions sometimes seem strange, until it turns out that it was part of a plan. Even if the plan only worked 10%, he gets the most out of it. Al thinks several moves ahead. He is always prepared for his plan to fail - and he already has three new ones.

The attitude towards oneself and the world is like that of a person who has only one goal

Al has no family, no biography, no past. All we know is a code name, a letter. He is a shadow, living between the screens of monitors and the shadows of suspicion. He does not try to be understood. He does not need approval. He works because it is his essence. His "I" is dissolved in his work.

He sees no point in ordinary life. Food is sugar. Clothes are a bag. Conversations are a source of information. Relationships are a risk factor. Love is a distraction. Friendship is a resource. Anything that is not related to truth and investigation is redundant.

Emotions - if they exist, they are carefully disguised

Al doesn't show emotion openly. Even when he feels something, it comes through micro-gestures: a slightly raised eyebrow, a pause before answering, a slightly longer silence. His reaction to death, to betrayal, to victory or defeat is analytical. He can be sad, but he won't say it. He can be afraid, but he won't show it. The only time he shows anything real is when he feels like he's losing. Then he becomes a little... more human. But even then, he's reserved.
