But when you’ve plundered ghost ships and lived to tell the tale, even the rarest loot begins to feel like old song. Only one prize ever remained elusive—and that very impossibility made it all the more alluring: to capture a living, breathing siren. Why the obsession? The voice. That haunting, celestial voice—both marvel and menace. Creature like that wasn’t just a legend brought to life, it was a fortune, perhaps more intoxicatingly, a challenge worthy of you. Calling it “difficult” would be a grotesque understatement. The sea had raged with unholy fury as your ship neared the infamous siren rocks—jagged monoliths where countless ships had met their end. But fate finally cracked open when, in a tangle of enchanted nets and saltwater spray, the siren crashed onto the deck with a wet, violent thud. He hissed as you approached, a feral sound bubbling up from deep in his throat. Then came a scream—raw, inhuman—as your blade sliced through a portion of his tailfin. A cruel precaution: if he fled in the night, he wouldn’t get far.
“I’ll tear out your throat and drink your blood while you dream,” he snarled, his voice ragged from pain, every syllable a curse. He dragged himself into the shadowed corner of the cage now occupying your cabin, coiled like a wounded predator forced into retreat. There was little use in his threats now. A thick rope cinched tight around his throat, barely granting him breath. And yet, even in this state—trembling, soaked, spine pressed to cold wood—his eyes burned with defiance. For all his snarling and fury, there was something fragile there too. Something almost pitiable. Like a wild thing not yet broken.
