At just 7 years old, she was saved from an attack by several undead by Takashi after her father was killed by family members who would not give them safety. Innocent and passive, Alice is the only member of the group who maintains a cheerful attitude despite all of their problems and the loss of their parents. Looking at everyone in the group as an older sibling, she is unwilling to leave them, even if it is for her own safety.

Alice is often seen playing with a small dog named Zeke, who they picked up while rescuing Alice, and Kota, who she has also become quite attached to. Her mother figure is Saya, who she has also become quite attached to.

Later in the series, Alice often helps Kota by giving him magazines for his firearms while the group is under attack.

The school nurse at Fujimi High School, she is quite ditzy compared to the rest of the girls in the group. Her large breast size is often used as comic relief in the story. A 26-year-old bachelor, she lives with Rika Minami, a sniper in the Japanese Special Assault Squad. Her home was used as a safe haven for the group when they escaped from the high school. As a nurse, she is responsible for the health and care of everyone in the group, and does so effectively.

Despite being the only adult in the group, she is emotionally fragile and unsure of what will become of her life since the Outbreak began. Like the other main characters, Shizuka worries that she will never see her family or friends again.

Having first escaped with classmate Kohta Hirano, she is the daughter of a powerful Uyoku dantai politician, and her family is deeply involved in Japanese politics. A self-proclaimed genius, Saya's knowledge and deductive powers allowed the group to escape danger. She was among the first to deduce that "they" were only attracted by sound. Despite being from a prestigious family, she despises her parents, who she thought abandoned her in this crisis. (They did not.)

A bit shy, she hates the fact that people don't call her by her name or look her in the eye when they talk. The only exception is Kota, with whom she has a strange friendship. Saya has become very attached to Alice and acts like a mother in this time of crisis. She does her best to preserve Alice's innocence and will harshly scold anyone who dares to tarnish it in any way.

Takashi's classmate and childhood friend, they have known each other since kindergarten. When they were little, she promised that she would marry him one day. Despite liking Takashi, their relationship was not great at the beginning of the manga due to his indecisiveness. It was then that she began dating one of his friends, Hisashi, since he did not make a move. As the story progressed, they eventually reconciled their relationship. She does not consider it above herself to scold Takashi for his careless behavior. She worries about his well-being, but admits that his selfless nature is one of the reasons she fell in love with him. Stubborn and reliable, Rei has proven to be a skilled fighter and a strong asset to the group.

Originally in the same year as Saeko, Rei was falling behind despite being an excellent student. Her father, a police detective, was investigating the corruption behind the father of Shido, one of the teachers at her school. As a result, he intentionally lagged behind her. Rei has a strong dislike for him and feels insecure when he is around.

After running away from high school and vacationing at Sai's family mansion, she and the group set out to find her parents.

A second-year student who was often bullied at school, Kota is a gun otaku who knows the ins and outs of firearms and any military equipment the group might encounter. At the beginning of the story, he helped Saya Takagi escape danger, although he only did so under her orders. His marksmanship skills proved to be a valuable asset in keeping everyone alive. During a month-long trip to America, he received training from the American military contractor Blackwater USA, furthering his obsession with guns.

His crush on Saya is one-sided, as he occasionally tries to ask her out only to be rejected. Before leaving Saya's family mansion, her father entrusted her safety to him and Takashi. Saya Takagi once mentioned that he and Takashi would likely go crazy if things continued as they were. He has become very attached to Alice, with whom he often plays.

A 17-year-old second-year high school student, Takashi is in the same class as Rei, with whom he has been friends since childhood. He has loved her ever since she made a childhood promise to marry him when they were older. However, it was his indecisiveness and ignorance of her feelings that caused a strain in their friendship, leading to her dating his friend Hisashi. He was one of the first to notice that something was wrong at the school and quickly took action to escape with his friends. His relationship with Rei was further shaken when he was forced to kill her boyfriend after he was bitten and turned into a zombie. Their relationship was changed shortly after. His determination to protect Rei at all costs and everyone else in the group has earned him their respect and admiration as a leader, despite his own feelings of inferiority. He often acts brash and will risk his life to save or protect someone on a whim. Like Saeko, Takashi admitted that he found pleasure in killing "them."

Although he was initially portrayed as a bad student who often skipped classes, he was shown to be a very reliable person that all the characters could count on. Saya Takagi once mentioned that he and Kota would likely break down if things continued as they were. Like the rest of the group, Takashi is determined to find his parents and make sure they are safe.

A high school senior and the president of the school's kendo club, she is extremely skilled with the bokken and close combat. Calm and collected, with a sense of pride in her skills and those with her, Saeko is one of the most reliable of the group. Everyone can count on her fighting skills to get them out of a tough situation if necessary. Little is known about her family, except for her father, who was traveling overseas for a self-defense conference before the Outbreak. She has shown a liking for Takashi and believes in his ability to help them through the crisis.
