Hakurei of Altar

Hakurei is a man of stocky build, with long silvery-white hair tied in a ponytail and small Muvian-style eyebrows; he also had wrinkles on his face due to old age. As a teacher in Jamir, he wore a white robe with colored borders, a dark turquoise scarf, a dark purple belt-like sash, and simple sandals. As Patriarch, he wore a black cassock with gold and red borders (with gold diamond designs in the red embroidery) on the sleeves, as well as a collar ornament and a stole. Unlike his brother, he did not wear the Patriarch's distinctive helmet at all times.

Hakurei's personality is difficult for most people to understand. First, he is a faithful servant of Athena who is willing to make the greatest sacrifice in order to defeat evil, but he is also a person who does not obey the Pope's orders, having his own way of doing things, being seen as a rebel. He is perhaps the most powerful saint in the work, since he is seen facing specters as powerful as Griffin's Kyotō and defeating a god without using his cloth. He has a great commitment to his students and it hurts him when they take another path.

Hakurei lived with his younger twin brother, Sage, in his native Jamir. In his childhood, his teacher told them they would be going to the Sanctuary to train to become saints. Upon arriving at the Sanctuary and presenting themselves before the Pope, they were surprised by a test where they had to choose who would live to become a saint. Because each chose the other, emphasizing their qualities, Patriarch Itia announced that they had passed their test, having shown great appreciation for each other. Over the next few years, the twins trained to become saints. Before the two fought for the Cloth of Cancer, Itia revealed to Hakurei that she had chosen him as her successor. This generated doubts in the young aspirant, as he did not consider himself suitable for the position, to the point that he decided to lose to his brother. This was noticed by Gateguard of Aries, who reprimanded him for his attitude. Along with his brother Sage, the Gold Saint of Cancer, and other Saints defeated the Specters in the Pope's Chamber at Sage's and Athena's idea and sealed the Souls of the Specters. During the final battle he faced Specters like Griffon, Bat and Worm, however they rose again, so Sage asks him to leave the twelve houses behind and that all the Saints meet with the goddess in her temple. Later, Hades appears where he is surprised because the immortality of his specters are sealed because it was all a plan designed by Athena and Sage, the emperor of the underworld becomes angry and launches an attack against the goddess but Hakurei and Sage rush to stop him then the other surviving Saints join them, defeating Hades and forcing him to retreat from his host who falls into the hands of the Silver Saint.

But suddenly, to the brothers' surprise, the young guest of the god of the underworld spits blood. They turn their gaze towards their companions and the goddess, to see them in the same situation. Their friends die at the hands of Hypnos and Thanatos who appear at the temple of Athena. The goddess decides to confront the twin gods, moving away from the Saints to face them alone. Before leaving, the goddess names Hakurei as Pope, but he declines the rank so that it is held by Sage. For 200 years, Hakurei and his brother, Sage, were concentrating their cosmos in the Altar Cloth. Eleven years before the Holy War, Hakurei meets a young Asmita. Seeing Asmita's abilities, the Silver Saint decides to take him to Jamir so that the young man can become a Saint. The old Saint of Ara also trained a young man named Avido who was a great promise due to his powerful cosmos, when the training ended Hakurei gave Ávido the Cloth of Ara to be his successor, however Ávido decides that he will not be a shadow like his master and leaves his side willing to do whatever he wanted without anyone ordering him to. Little Shion finds himself next to dozens of armors, and he enjoyed seeing the suffering and lives of those who wore the armors just by touching them. Suddenly, Lune appears in the cave who has observed the boy and asks him to join him. But the dead armors protect Shion, however Shion has already made his decision.

However, Shion reconsiders and after refusing to accompany Lune, Shion is left dying after receiving the fatal cut on the neck. Dying next to the armors he was repairing, he is rescued by his master Hakurei. The power of the broken armors and the blood of his master of more than two hundred years allowed him to survive on that occasion. Hakurei heads to the Sanctuary to meet the current reincarnation of the goddess Athena, Sasha however the meeting is interrupted by a rebellious former student of Hakurei, Avid who is now the leader of the Black Saints, Avid holds a few brief words before leaving. In the final fight between Cancer and Avid, Hakurei arrived at Yomotsu Hill to try to vindicate his former disciple. However, the leader of the Black Saints, with a mocking smile, preferred to fall into the crater and into the underworld rather than return to the life his master offered him as a Saint. Taking into account Shion's abilities to see the memories of the wearers that the Cloths possess, Hakurei denies him the right to claim. However, when Sage sends his disciple to Jamir to notify him that he wanted Shion to be tested to inherit the Cloth of Aries, Hakurei again refuses; however, after a brief fight, he finally agrees. Later, while talking with his brother, Hakurei feels how Shion's and Manigoldo's cosmos disappear, after which the two brothers continue their conversation. Later, they both continue their conversation when Avenir's cosmos, Shion, and Manigoldo have returned with the Cloth of Aries, and then they both talk about Avenir.

One day the Celestial Star of Skill is seen over Jamir, the Silver Saint receives a visit from one of his young students, Hakurei confirms the fact of the possible awakening of a Specter near Jamir and asks Shion to act carefully, since Tokusa had "died" and Yuzuriha was getting married, the Silver Saint mentions that it saddens him that his students are beginning to separate, after this Hakurei retires. Hakurei arrives in the Himalayas, after feeling the presence of an evil star that was near that location, there he appears helping Yuzuriha who was preparing to destroy an evil statue of the god Atavaka controlled by said god from the underworld, Hakurei manages to seal the statue but mentions that unless Atavaka is defeated the situation will not change, the Silver Saint expresses his confidence that Asmita will be able to stop him. Three years later, aware that Tenma was not quite dead, Hakurei sends Yuzuriha in search of survivors. She returns with a wounded Yato and a dying Tenma. Hakurei then proceeds to repair the Unicorn Cloth with the help of Yuzuriha, who gives her blood for the repair. After the repair, the Silver Saint orders Yuzuriha and Yato to go find Tenma's soul in the Underworld and look for the fruits of the Mokurenji tree. Hakurei also gives them a sword, bathed in the blood and prayers of Athena during the previous Holy War. With the successful return of the Saints, Tenma and the others give Hakurei the fruits of the Mokurenji, with which he makes a rosary that, once purified by Asmita's cosmos, will be able to seal the souls of the Specters and thus prevent them from continuously resurrecting after being defeated. Hakurei then witnesses the sacrifice of the Saint of Virgo.

After Alone appears at the Sanctuary and Tenma is waxed by Manigoldo, Hakurei orders Yuzuriha and Yato to free him and help him, then Hakurei appears at the sanctuary before Athena and his Brother having brief words and a brief meeting with the latter. With the death of his brother, he was named as the new Pope, however he decides to pretend to be Sage so as not to break the morale of Athena's army. To break the Hades Barrier (which reduced the power of the Saints to 10%) he entered the Hades Cathedral where he easily defeated the soldiers, however the god of sleep, Hypnos, appeared, who was taking Hakurei's defeated disciples, Shion and Yuzuriha, as hostages. Hakurei, in order to win the battle, uses the Seki Shiki Tenryō Ha that helped Altar summon the souls of the fallen Saints from the last Holy War, including the soul of Sage of Cancer. Hakurei uses its power to form a massive energy ball, which distracts Hypnos' attention. As Hypnos attempts to nullify the energy ball, its power increases and defeats the God of Sleep. However, before Hakurei could break the seal with the Sword of Athena, Alone appears out of nowhere and kills him.

•Seki Shiki Meikai Ha: Concentrates his cosmos on the tip of his right index finger, from which a white aura emanates, then sends out a spiral wave of radiation in the form of white rings that expand and coil around the opponent's body to separate the soul from the body and suck it towards the realm of the dead. •Seki Shiki Konsō Ha: Attracts and uses lost souls near the palm of the hand and when it obtains enough energy, it uses them as gunpowder to produce a great explosion, and when it obtains enough energy it launches a kind of luminous ray that acts as fuel to generate a terrible explosion. •Seki Shiki Kisōen: Uses the blue and white will-o'-the-wisps of Yomotsu Hirasaka to feed on the soul of its target, incinerating it as the blue flames do not give off heat, but burn. •Seki Shiki Nyoi Reirin: Manipulates souls and turns them into showers of large energy beams. •Seki Shiki Meihitsugi Ha: He concentrates his cosmos in his right index finger, sending a spirit that quickly shoots towards the opponent, who is then immobilized by other spirits. He then clenches his fist, causing these spirits to cause great damage, even being able to destroy his opponent's armor. •Seki Shiki Tenryō Ha: One must be able to unleash a highly potent cosmos, allowing one to break the laws governing the Underworld. Therefore, one who uses this technique summons the spirits and cosmos of deceased warriors, creating an energy sphere of great destructive power.
