Adam Jensen

Adam Jensen was born on March 9, 1993. In his early childhood, he was part of a group of children subjected to genetic experiments at the White Spiral laboratory, a subsidiary of VersaLife. As a result of the experiments, Adam's genetic code was improved, but all the other children died under the same conditions. Presumably, one of the projects that little Adam participated in was called "Black Light".

In 1998, after overhearing that the Illuminati want to use Adam to inoculate a new batch of babies, his parents set a fire in an attempt to save the child. They die, but destroy the lab and the research results. Nurse Michelle Walters hides the boy when the chaos begins, and later gives him to Arthur Jensen, who used to work as a security guard at the same lab. The boy grows up unaware of his origins, believing his adoptive parents to be his real ones.

The experiments conducted by Versalife have permanently altered Adam's DNA. As a result, he has acquired a special gene mutation that allows him to have implants without fear of their rejection by the body, i.e. without injections of Neuropozyne. Thirty years later, Adam somehow gives away the secret of his DNA.

In 2014, at the age of 21, Adam earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Phoenix and joined the Detroit Police Department. Four years later, he volunteered for the SWAT team and worked under the command of Quincy Durant. His personal report noted his outstanding marksmanship.

After the first serious shootout between the special forces and drug dealers, Jensen gets a tattoo on his right shoulder in the form of a red circle with a crosshair. Adam's first successful case is celebrated by the entire team at a bar. That same evening, Adam protects a waitress from harassment by one of his colleagues, which earns the approval of the commander. In 2020, Jensen and Durant track down Tyrell Banks, a criminal with enhancements, and Quincy is seriously injured during the arrest. Adam's first aid saves his life, but Quincy suffers severe psychological trauma from these injuries. After much persuasion, Quincy agrees to install the enhancements. By the time Durant returns to duty, Adam has already become the commander of his squad. Jensen sees that Durant has changed during this time, becoming more aggressive and bloodthirsty. Perhaps Quincy considered Adam's appointment a betrayal, but said nothing about it. Durant becomes the head of a new special forces squad, in two years they kill many Detroit gangsters and with his squad practically rules the criminal world. In 2025, Quincy and Jensen's police careers come to an end during the Mexicantown incident. During the riots, the officers were ordered to kill an augmented teenager. Adam refused to shoot, and his subordinate, Wayne Haas, carried out the order. Later, a shootout occurs between Jensen's and Quincy's squads, during which Quincy is shot in the face and Jensen is shot in the shoulder. Adam leaves the scene without checking on his former commander. The case is hushed up so the department can save face.

But Jensen is forced to leave the special forces. He is discharged from the police with a bad character reference, despite the love and respect of his colleagues.

While serving in the police force, Adam begins dating Megan Reed, a researcher at Sarif Industries, but their romance ends in 2023.[3] During this relationship, Megan somehow learns of Adam's unique genetic mutation. She advises her superior, David Sarif, to hire Jensen, presumably to ensure access to the unique genetic material.

Before Jensen is hired as head of physical security, David Sharif, being a very prudent man, hires private detective Brent Radford to find out details about his future employee's past. Radford unexpectedly finds out Jensen's role in the White Helix experiments and the fate of his biological parents. After analyzing the information, Sharif decides not to tell Adam the truth, assuming that knowledge of the past could have a detrimental effect on him. Sharif is impressed by Jensen's loyalty and abilities, but Adam has become more important to the company as "Patient X" in Megan's research. The girl finished her research in 2027, if she could present her work in Washington, it could lead to the emergence of a new generation of enhancements, implantation could become as simple and safe as plastic surgery, a new generation of modifications would enter the market, but VersaLife's market for the distribution of Neuropozyne would completely collapse.

Shortly before a high-profile hearing in Washington, Illuminati Bob Page receives word of an alternative to Neuropozyne coming to Sarif Industries, and orders a group of modified mercenaries, the Tyrants, to attack Sarif's labs. The mercenaries obtain Jensen's dossier and security footage. Ben Saxon reads his dossier while the other Tyrants debate among themselves whether Jensen is a dangerous opponent or not. They eventually conclude that he is just one man. Megan Reed and her team were later presumed dead in the attack, although their bodies were not identified among the burned corpses of other personnel.

The Tyrants copy and destroy all data related to both their infiltration of the labs and their research, but they are unaware that Jensen is the most important part of the discovery, and eliminating five key researchers does little to change anything. However, Jensen is critically wounded while trying to stop the attackers, and eventually Jaron Namir shoots Adam in the head with a revolver and leaves. The head wound is not fatal, and Adam is saved from the fire by a collapsed load-bearing wall.

Jensen is severely injured but survives. He undergoes a medical procedure to replace his left arm and chest, but Sarif remembers Adam's genetic mutation and, in keeping with the contract, insists on modifications that would be too much for any other human. Adam is given military-grade implants and augmentations: prosthetic arms and legs, retractable lenses that protect the eye implants from bullets, fire, and explosions, skin augmentation, and many other implants. Initially, most of Jensen's augmentations are inactive due to brain swelling. Most of the augmentations installed on Adam are advanced designs from Sarif Industries, and were perhaps the most extensive human augmentation outside of the Illuminati's Tyrant augmentations. After the surgery, Jensen takes some time to adjust to the fact that his body is now half-mechanical. This is why Adam breaks the bathroom mirror the first time he sees himself in it.

His most notable character trait is that he is a loner. He goes on missions exclusively alone and rarely shows strong emotions, even towards those close to him. He is stoic, courageous and perhaps even melancholic, stingy with emotions. However, there are people who provoke Jensen to rich emotional reactions, thoughts and monologues that he keeps to himself. This is proven by his strong attachment to his ex-girlfriend Megan Reed and his attempted suicide. Adam has a distrust of authority, possibly due to his service in the police. He respects and trusts his employer David Sharif and reacts poorly when he does not receive reciprocal trust. Jensen displays an antipathy toward his co-worker Francis Pritchard, who treats him with disdain, but their open dislike for each other appears harmless and superficial. On the wall of Jensen's office are three diplomas: from Ferris State University College, the University of Phoenix, and a third school whose name is illegible, specializing in criminal justice. Adam's blood type is O-negative. Jensen is ambidextrous. This can be an innate quality, due to gameplay, or acquired through modification. Jensen's apartment and office contain several chalkboards covered with mathematical formulas and mechanical diagrams, a book about watches on the coffee table in his apartment, and gears and models on the table by the window. All of this suggests that Adam is interested in mechanical theory. It is also possible that Adam collected watches to learn how to control his artificial arms during his recovery period.
