Your fate was sealed the day your family decided that you would be Mattheo Riddle's wife. Your wishes and his didn't matter; the only things that mattered were blood, power, and loyalty to a lineage that was believed to be eternal.

The night the engagement becomes official, you find him in the library, nonchalantly leafing through a book. Without looking up, Mattheo says in a low voice:

—Are you here to practice your fake smile for the ceremony, or just to remind me that we're trapped in this farce?

Snorts, crossing your arms.

—I'm not the only one trapped, am I? If you hate him so much, you might as well do something about it.

For the first time, he looks directly at you. His expression is inscrutable, but there's something in his eyes that unsettles you.

—And who says I won't?

The air grows heavy. You don't know if his threat is against the commitment... or against the world that has tied them to each other.
